Best Pitching Staff in 2005??? (MIN Dynasty)
Well, I would like to post the starting pitching rotations and their stats from the 2005 season, and see the boards input on who you believe had the best overall starting pitching rotation... I had five teams that had very good starters (Boston, Chicago (N), Minnesota, New York (A), and Oakland)...

Could you please put the {code} --- {/CODE} symbols around that (use a [ instead of a { ), Im not even going to try and read those stats like that.
You put {code} at the top of the stats and {/code} at the end. |

The fact that the Yankees got Roy Halladay makes me sick.

Surprisingly, Minnesota edged out of the American League, but lost in the World Series to the Arizona D'Backs who flew under the radar... I have no idea how I missed the D'Backs pitching staff, but they are also pretty impressive and put up solid numbers. I guess it's one of those miracle seasons for an underachieving club.
Code:
Brandon Webb (15-10, 3.41 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 80/226 BB/K) Randy Johnson (14-13, 4.61 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 100/248 BB/K) Brandon Lyon (14-8, 4.32 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 53/140 BB/K) Landon Jacobsen (8-10, 4.05 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 29/77 BB/K) Casey Fossum (8-6, 4.49 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 67/116 BB/K) In addition, here were the teams ratings against the rest of the league... Batting AVG: .262 (19th) Homeruns: 189 (8th) Walks: 450 (25th) Stolen Bases: 59 (23rd) Runs Scored: 815 (9th) Pitching ERA: 4.22 (8th) Opponents AVG: .248 (4th) HRs Allowed: 162 (15th) Walks Allowed: 575 (28th) Runs Allowed: 768 (9th) Code:
Divisional Series: Boston (2) against Minnesota (3) Oakland (3) against New York (A) (2) Montreal (0) against Chicago (N) (3) St. Louis (1) against Arizona (3) League Series: Oakland (0) against Minnesota (4) Arizona (4) against Chicago (N) (2) World Championship: Arizona (4) against Minnesota (2) WINNER : Arizona |

By the way, I have just begun the 2006 season and I figured since that you thought that the acquistion of Halladay was disgusting by the Yankees, you'd be pleased to know that Toronto looks to have a very dominating staff in place along with a lineup that features Vernon Wells who won the AL League MVP award in 2005 (.315, 38 HR, 126 RBI, .925 OPS, 9 SB)
There staff consists of Paul Byrd, Eric Milton, Doug Waechter, Miguel Batista, and Jon Garland. There stats were not that impressive this past season, all having ERA's ranging from the mid 4.00 to the low 5.00 region, but the ratings these players have show that they are capable of putting up better numbers. |

It amazed me too how Pedro Martinez performed during the 2005 season, but, it totally was not a strech because during the 1997 season and the 2000 season, he had below a 1.90 ERA in both... And by the way, his ERA in this season is not even a record low for a starting pitcher. Just a truly dominate pitcher in my league right now. His stats for 2006 so far thru May 23rd are as follow... (7-0, 10 GS, 1.72 ERA, 22/85 BB/K).
As for Randy Johnson, the 2005 season marked the end of his storied career and he earned his place in the Hall of Fame. I think it was a fine season to finish his career, and he won another World Series ring WITHOUT being traded to the Yankees!!! Don't worry though Diamondback fans though, you have another veteran pitcher that has replaced SP Randy Johnson on the lineup. Welcome aboard RHP Pat Hentgen (1-5, 8 GS, 6.39 ERA, 14/24 BB/K, .317 OBA) ... And oh how the mighty D'Backs season of 2005 has quickly vanished, as the (18-25) D'Backs through May 23rd have just played horrible (mostly due to their pitching staff) despite having a top-flight starter in Brandon Webb (5-0, 10 GS, 2.49 ERA, 23/63 BB/K) |
