FTP uploading not working in OOTP5

I've been uploading to my site over the past year and its always worked fine. Yesterday I was unable to do so because it said "Error: A connection to the server could not be established" I haven't changed any of my setting so I'm uncertain of the problem. At first I thought it was probably my host but I logged into my regular FTP uploading program and was able to use it. Just curious to know what may have happened and if their is an easy way to upload using an FTP program instead of thru the game if I can't get it to work. Thanks!

Have you clicked the 'Work Offline' button in IE recently? That can cause problems in uploading from the game. Open up IE and make sure it connects to a page, then try to upload from the game again.

Any FTP program will work for uploading game reports for the website. I never upload from the game itself. Just connect to your host and go to the folder you entered into the Online League Setup screen in-game and upload that way.

Are you using a firewall at all? If so, can you check to see if you are using a passive connection on your FTP program (most likely you are).

Many FTP programs use passive exchanges as a default. When it is passive the computer that initiates the connection controls the connection, and firewalls like that. Active FTP, on the other hand, allows for the FTP server to chose a communications port, and firewalls generally don't like that.

Im not 100% certain if OOTP uses passive or active FTP, we'll need Henry, Steve or Markus to answer that, but it could be an issue if you have a firewall or recently enbled a firewall like device on your computer/network.

I'll give you advice from a different angle. Don't use the in-game FTP function. I've found that it's much easier to use an external FTP program to upload the files that the game generates. You have a lot more control that way and can watch the upload process.
