Question help with this new faster version of uploading

Rather that try to explain how all of this works I am hoping someone can just tell me what exactly to do. Here is my situation...

I put everything into my league folder on the OOTP server. When I say everything I literally mean everything that is used in my web site: the html reports from the game, owners page, stories that go on the home page, etc.

The only thing that does not go in the league folder on the server is my league file that the owners download and I just leave that alone away from any folder.

On my PC the game creates all of the html reports into the folder C:Leaguesite. The old way I would just upload reports from the game and they would be uploaded by the game from the folder C: Leaguesite into the league folder on the server where they would overwrite the old reports and provide updated data to my web site.

So what EXACTLY do I need to do to use Andrea's new method he spoke of because I am lost.

Thanks, Maddux

Asssuming you use WinZip:

After you run your Master HTML and create all your league files in the Leaguesite folder:

right click the Leaguesite folder and put it into a zip file named _gdba.zip

the "gdba" portion will be replaced with your league's initials on the ootp server. Upload this file using some type of FTP program (not the in game version) to your league directory. The server will then unzip it to the Leaguesite folder on your site.

You can add other stuff like your league zip file, but get this portion down first.

Hope this helps.

Do I put the entire Leaguesite folder inside the zip file or just the HTML files that are in it? I can't ever get the right click feature to work properly so I just create a new zip file with the wizard and then I can browse to add the files I want and then browse some more to add the folders I need. In this case it would be easy because I would just browse to the one Leaguesite folder and it would zip it and all of its contents.... if that is what I am supposed to do.

to your league directory.

What exactly is the league directory? Does this mean I just upload the new zip file to the server without placing it inside a sub folder? Remember, my "league" folder holds all of the HTML pages that make up my web site. Well, the index file isn't in there, but all of the others are. I am confused about how all of these HTML files are going to end up in the "league" folder where they need to be in order to make all of my links work correctly. I am probably wrong, but it seems more logical to put the new _ABCD.zip file inside the league folder where its contents need to be after the server unzips it.

Also, if the entire leaguesite folder gets uploaded in the zip file what happens to the folder after all of its HTML files are removed and placed in the league folder on the server?

Thanks for your help, but I am still a little confused.

When you right click the Leaguesite folder, a menu should come up. Choose "add to zip file" or something like that. Once you click that, you'll need to choose "new" the first time you do this. Name the zip file _gdba.zip but use whatever letters identify your league. Once you do that, then click "add and replace" files, this should zip all the files that are inside your Leaguesite folder with the path of "Leaguesite/" out to the right of them.

At this point, you could now add your league zip file by clicking "add" and finding your zip file and putting it inside this zip file also.

OK, if all your html files are inside a League folder on your site, then I would "create" the same setup on your computer then zip the League folder from your computer ONCE you have everything inside it updated. Then when the server unzips the file, it will put everything where it goes.

The key is this: anything inside the _abcd.zip file will be unzipped to the same file path as is shown next to it inside the zip file screen. It seems hard, but its really easy once you get it figured out. You have an odd setup with everything in one folder, but it really makes it easy to use this for all your stuff once you get it figured out.

did I miss some announcement?

I'm not a commish, but I do upload the files for one league - being able to do that with a zip file would save a ton of time...

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

Yes, DD, if you will look back a few pages in this forum you will see a big thread where Andreas announced this new feature and some people discussed it.

Cheers, Maddux

one crucial note:

Your html files from the game MUST be inside a folder called Leaguesite on your sites directory. It will not work otherwise, unless I'm totally mistaken.

I had all of mine in "files" folders, but renamed them all Leaguesite and it works great!!

Saves ALOT of time.

On my server space I have a folder called "league" with everything inside it. Could I just rename it "leaguesite" to match the leaguesite folder on my hard drive?

Cheers, Maddux
