Slow player development

I'm playing a 30 team solo league with 6.03, 5 round ammy draft, default player modifiers, coaches/scouts off.

In the six seasons I played over the weekend, I failed to have a single minor league position player that started in A ball reach AAA. I tried promoting guys with good numbers to the next level only to have them fail miserably and get sent back. This is with a mixture of college and high school players. I've been drafting late because of successful teams, but still I would expect at least a couple of players to be on a more accelerated path to the big leagues.

The other thing I'm noticing is that there are several players throughout the league that seem to mature very, very late. I have been making a living off of the waiver wire taking former high draft picks that are 27-29 years old that have never reached their potential. I platoon them or bat them low in the order for a year as their ratings begin to meet their potential and they then develop into all-stars. It seems to me their are alot of players out there that don't become effective major leaguers until they're in their 30's. I also counted 26 players age 40 or older in my league right now, which seems very high.

The reason I'm posting this is to see if others are experiencing the same thing or if people think what I'm seeing is closer to "normal" and I should just let things play out. I don't want to start messing with the modifiers unless I have to.

If the 6.03 patch did not tweak this in a major way, this is the way the game does it...I have just begun playing my two leagues with OOTP6 6.03, so I can't comment on it, yet.

However, this is what I found out about player development prior to 6.03...Here is a discussion in this thread below with a link to a long and lengthy thread.

I can't believe more people aren't commenting on this with in version 6.03!

if they are developing to slow for you, adjust the modifier to speed it up.

well, is there a good setting for modifier to reflect real life development?

I have been playing a solo league since OOTP6 came out. I started in 2004 with 16 teams, 2 leagues, 5 round ammy draft. I'm currently in 2019. I think 6.03 came out when I was around 2014. Before that, I was happy with the variety in ages players were developing. I saw a lot of guys turn into MLB regulars around 23-27, and a few studs around the league younger than that. There were some late bloomers who didn't turn into major leaguers until 28 or older, but I was very happy with this. One of my favorite players sat in my AAA team until he was 29, then made it to the majors out of necessity and developed into a solid player.

Since 6.03 it seems like more young guys (20-23) are impact players in the league. I guess I'll have to make it through some more seasons before I can judge if I think there is a good range. I like a lot of unpredictability in player development... and so far OOTP6 has made me much happier than OOTP4 or 5 did in this department.

Thanks for the info. It looks like Markus has tweaked it as he stated in a previous post, if you have MLB regulars, ages 18-25, that are productive players.

Did you use the default settings?

RD17 seemed to get different results than you did.

I may run one more 20 year test league and see how the default settings do using 6.03.

RD17, how many games per season are you simming? I was playing a 40 game a season league for a while when I realized a similar issue.

I'm playing 162 game seasons. I didn't change any of the modifiers. I wanted to see if other people were having good luck and maybe what I'm experiencing is just an aberration before I started messing with them.

I'v mentione slow developement way back when OOTP5 came out. It's really not the fact they develope slow. It's the fact they never develope at all. I usually pick in late rounds so i know i'll be getting poor players. But at least 80% of them never make it past single A ball. I really don't care if they suck at AAA but at least get there.

This was not a problem in OOTP4. I had alot of players in all three minor league's. Granted they all sucked but were at least somewhat playable.
