Yes, this can be done. As I understand it the player pages are all redone each time you generate the HTML pages using the "do player pages" option. If you skip seasons the player pages will still be there from the last time you did generate them.

It would be nice if only active players' pages were regenerated each time. That seems obvious, so I assume this is not something simple to do or Cato would have already done it. Probably issues with knowing who is active or not or something. Anyhoo, just one thing that would be a little more frosting on the cake.

There's a checkbox in the Options menu. You'll see "Team and League Pages" and you can select "Current Year Only". If you uncheck this box, it will go back and catch everything since the beginning.

The reason all player pages are created every year is that they change every year, or at least it's possible for them to change every year. For example, the player's place a career leaderboards and their similar batters/pitchers change.

I'll start looking for ways to improve speed, but I don't think there are many. It's just a lot of data being crunched in a lot of ways...nature of the beast, I'm afraid.

Ah-ha. I had forgotten all about the leaderboards on the player pages. I was only thinking of the stat lines. At very least I won't waste any more of my time wondering about that now.

Ok well if i were to wait 5 years and then start up doing players again the players htmls wouldnt be all jacked up?what i am doing is starting from 1895-now with fictional rosters just so i can get a history for my league...so if i turn all the html outputting until the very end , would it output all the htmls from 1895- present?

Waiting a few extra minutes is well worth it in my opinion to have everything completely updated. The entire point of Catobase is to have the most detailed information about your league possible. So if you start skipping parts to make it run faster then why do it at all?

Yeah, this works fine. I can't remember who it was, but someone after V6 first came out said they were going to sim 25 years saving each season, then spend a day importing the data into CatoBase. Maybe I can't remember because he is still off going through that history . Anyway, the HTML pages will come out fine as long as you import the data for each season to get it into the database. That's where the info is stored, not in the HTML output. You can completely skip the all HTML generation then make sure to do what Sporr said about doing more than the current season. Or you can just skip the player pages until you have all the years pulled in because those are all done over each time they are regenerated.

That would be me. :-)

You can find my CatoBase history here. I simmed 25 years right after 6.02 came out, and ran CatoBase after each season, without generating the .html until after season 25. The league is now in season 29, and the CatoBase reflects the additional four seasons as well.

It took me about a week to run all the seasons and the CatoBase, but it's very worth it. If you'd like, you can read about it in my dynasty thread linked in my signature. PM, email, or AIM me if you want to talk more specifics. I'd be happy to help any way that I can.
