Sorry for another font question...

This is regarding the players names in their fielding boxes in the in-game screen. I can't figure out why they appear a bit blurry, but I note that the hitters name is very clear.

All of the standard answers of disable 3d, higher resolution, update drivers, update direct x, all do not make a difference.

So I checked the original screenshots on the OOTP development pages, and it appears the names for the fielders are a bit blurry compared to the hitter there as well! So I have to assume if this is evident on the devlopers screenshots, this is an issue in the game.

Is there anyway to change the fielders names font to the same as the hitters?

See this screenshot to see what I mean.

Clearly (at least to me) the hitter and runner fonts are different and more clear than the fielders font.

They look like the same font to me, just different colors. I don't find them particularly blurry but it seems like the lt. green on dk. green doesn't stand out a lot.

Actually, I tried the different color background and the type still does not look the same. Anyone have any other ideas on this?

I'd bet a nice Flat panel LCD monitor would cure your ills. I've wanted one for so long...

You know, now that I look at it closer, there is a dropshadow on the fielding fonts (both on the white and green font) but not on the offensive ones. This is likely the cause of the blurred look to you. I hadn't really noticed it until I zoomed in on the image a bit.

I don't know if there is any way to turn off the dropshadowing or not. Anyone know?

In general, you right-click on the main Windows screen and then navigate to "Properties"/"Appearance"/"Effects"/"Show shadows under menus" and then turn it on and off there as you wish.

Exactly kingcharlesxii! I'm not losing it then!

Malleus Dei, I tried your solution and the effect remains.

It is strange that it looks thus for the defensive, but not the offense. The offensive players look as clear as a bell, but defense has a blurred effect regardless of the background color.

I didn't think it would work, but that wasn't my solution, I was just answering KC's question about how to that in general.

I don't have a solution. Good luck.

Has anyone else noticed this or come up with a solution?
The blurry font on the defensive players gives me a bit of a headache. I have to think it is something to do with the program because the original screenshots have the same problem.

To further illustrate my point.

The first is from OOTP5 and the second from OOTP6.

Yeah, you're right. Must be the way it displays on some monitors/cards.

color

The font shadow color in v6 is a light shade which contrasts poorly with the font color. In v5 the shadow is dark, a good contrast.

It was difficult for me to tell exactly what the colors are supposed to be. These are approximations:

colors
main font: ffffff
dark shadow: 000c00
light shadow: 50aa50

Somewhere on a v6 style sheet or two, you need to change that light font shadow color to the dark one like in v5. Find the ‘50aa50’ and change it to ‘000c00’ and that will do it.

skin

Most likely, your target is the stylesheet in the skin you’re using. The main Graphics folder might have a stylesheet in it to adjust as well. There might even be an .ini file where you’ll need to make the changes.

It can be done, and it’s not tough, but it will take some work. I apologize for not doing it myself, but I’m busy at the moment.

thanks for the help Satchel.
I have been fiddleing with this for the past 1/2 hour, I'm just not sure what I am looking for.

One question though, the current skin I am using is one I transfered over from OOTP5, so it should have the same stylesheet, correct?

I can't find any .ini files in the graphics folder.

I'm kind of lost here, but appreciate the help.

files

Looks like the textcolors.ini file is the one. It seems the stylesheet just controls the style within whichever html browser you activate from within the game. Let me take a closer look, it shouldn’t take long.

I am using the MLB skin by JoeRock.

I checked the textcolors file in OOTP5 and it is the same as the one in OOTP6 though.

since

Since v5 and v6 are pulling colors from the same source (when using the same skin for either) and the result onscreen in different in each game, they must be selecting different choices out of the palette available.

We need to do some detective work and track down the font shadow hues. They could be in either of the color .ini files, or they could be one of the background color files in the skin (for example bc1.bmp). They could be in a few different places. Also, it will take some experimenting to see what else changing that one use of the color will effect.
