Time to get my ballot cast
Hornsby and Delahanty are locks. Two of the greatest hitters the game has seem. I must also vote for Rube Oldring. He was the greatest slugger of his era and a terrfic defensive shortstop as well. I tend to be stingy in my votes so I will only use 4. The final one goes to Jesse Tannehill. Like Young and Nicholls he played pre-1901 but unlike both of them he had some real success after the HOB2 began. Bob Meusel is close but not on the first ballot in my opinion. I will reserve my first ballot votes only for the greatest of players. Meusel is close but not quite. Next year for him. The 5th guy I almost added was SS George McBride. He was just so dominant defensively during his time. If only he could have hit a little better or even played another 5 years. Thanks to all who have voted so far and for those who havent there is still time.

I almost voted for Oldring and McBride as well. The reason I didn't vote for Oldring (I still might vote for him later, as his HR is so far over the others during his era) was that his on base percentage and his slugging percentage did not quite match up to many of the other candidates. As for McBride, I decided against voting for him for the same reason that I don't think that Joe Tinker belongs in the Hall of Fame, that great defense doesn't make up for average to below-average offense.

Am I the only one who voted for Willie Keeler? I mean, he played in 1,000 less games than everyone else because he blew out his knee, and he still had 2300 hits. Plus that career .353 average is pretty gaudy.
Vote him in like Koufax!!! |
