How is the game?

I will admit, I have not purchased OOTP 6. I am currently playing both DMB and SOM. I was an avid player from version 2-5. The only complaints that I ever had was that there was atleast 2 to 3 career eding injuries a year as well as the talent level of some players drop dramatically to the point that a player will start the season in the starting lineup, and by the all star game, he has dropped 3 stars and is now in the minors or outright released.

Now, with that being said. I would like to know about this version. How is the game? After reading some of the posts, some people make it sound like it is the worst thing since E.T. on the Atari 2600. Is the game that good, or that bad? Is it buggy? Is the root of the problem that there were features the the collective wanted that have not shown up? What features are missing?

Every game has its warts, and unfortunately most of the posts here are complaints. But my guess is that is because a majority of the satisfied owners are home playing the game! I enjoy the game immensely and would recommend it to anyone, especially a vet such as you.

Well. . .the game is much more complicated than version 5--which makes it harder to get right (OOTPDev is still working out all the kinks) and harder to enjoy (for me) since it is too much like work in some senses. . .of course you can turn off all the stuff you don't like (or will be able to, once the kinks are gone). But to answer your question with absolute accuracy, I'd have to know just how bad the ET game was on the Atari 2600. Can you tell us more about that?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - I had TOTALLY pushed the memory of that E.T. game from my mind. Something about "emotional scarring."

Anyway, OOTP6 is a fantastic game, but it's not completely bug-free just yet. However, Markus did say he's working feverishly on getting everything ironed out. I'd expect a patch/update within a week or two, just based off of what he said. When everything is resolved, this game should win hands-down among its competitors.

You will not be disappointed by this game. I haven't been able to stop playing it since I found it with version 4. Version 6 is by far the best of all of them.

Yes, you can import v. 5 leagues into v.6.

V. 6 is pretty different in many respects; while there are some obvious glitches, it generally works well if you keep the differences in mind.

To give you an idea on how good it is...

I started a brand new solo league when 6 came out.
I just started season 3 of that solo league.
I play 162 game seasons.
I play every game out.
I spend too much time playing the game.

This is one of the worst versions of OOTP (support-wise) in my opinion, but it is still the best baseball simulation, no, best sport simulation game out there.

Yes, there's a converter. I converted my v5 league and just finished my first year playing in v6. No big problems to report. Some player ratings were a bit funky, but I chalked it up to "that's baseball - weird stuff happens from year to year."

Just ask Esteban Loiza to compare his 2002 to his 2003!

Seriously - buy it, play it, you'll love it!

In terms of creating realistic results, it's an improvement over OOTP5, mainly because of the new engine and the added levels of customization (within player development and creating different eras). In terms of playability, a lot of people are having more problems with it than they did with OOTP5, mainly as a result of the new roster rules. Personally, I think it's an improvement, but I haven't experienced the same bugs as some other people have.

If you're converting a league from v.5, do a trial conversion and quickly simulate the season to determine if league totals need to be changed. Depending on the average ratings of the players in your league, you may also need to adjust the player creation modifiers, but that's getting a little technical.

The only thing I'm going to say is look at people who have tested player evaluation on the board to find the percentages you want, your going to want to change that immedatly (I have it at 75%, 10%, 10%, 5%).
