How it went for OOTP6

I did a poll last year asking what people would most want to see worked on for OOTP6. The poll is here: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...hreadid=44227&

The results were:
A total overhaul of the way defense works. 23 14.37%
A total overhaul of how individual games play out. 15 9.38%
A new interface. 8 5.00%
A "more robust" minor league system. 26 16.25%
Brand new news system. 31 19.38%
Head to Head internet play. 13 8.13%
More realism in player development as discussed here: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boa...&threadid=43927 35 21.88%
Something else, described below. 9 5.63%

out of 84 total votes

The "more realism in player development" option, which was number one, seems to have been addressed very well with great customizability.

The second biggest on the list, and not far behind, was a new news system. Considering the number of people who'd like to see it, you would think it would get more attention, but it hasn't. I guess other things.

The more robust minor league system has pretty much been forgotten, I guess, even by those who used to cheer for it.

The overhaul of defense was never really thought of as a priority, it seems. It got a touch up with player arms, but the underlying issues are still there.

The way individual games play out has not changed substantially, though the play-by-play seems a bit better.

Head to head play, next to last on the list, got great attention and effort, although it hasn't materlialized yet.

And a new interface, last on the list? Sort of. We got different fonts and new art, though the interface is generally the same, which seems fine at this point.

Overall, I think Markus made the right choice by going for the thing the most people wanted. I think the implementation of H2H play, though too late to go back on now, was a bit of a misstep that could have diverted energy from some of the more sought after enhancements, like the much maligned news system, minor leagues, or defense.

He also added a lot of new features. According to an earlier poll I had done, most people wanted a good balance of adding new features with fixing bugs. Version 6 may have been a little too heavy on the new features at the expense of fixing bugs.

What do you think?

Well, I think the News feature will be addressed with the SI version, and I think DIPS was a "Markus decision" which has turned out very well. Just for the record, I also think the minor league system will at least get a boost in V7.

geeze i hate to bee-itch

but yeh V7, a wunnerful 'conference', mergers and acquistions...
dare i say that V6 has (even with patches) been a little shy in it's presumed earth shattering, improved game stuff.
i'm using it - but i fear that the merger will take someof the 'creativity' away - tho it may also put a hand to the paper as far as genuine thoughtout applications go.
looks liek maybe 1 more patch for V6 and then we wait for V7...
i'm not sure and i aint saying its so but...
the loyal fan base may be getting a little thin on all this ...
quite possibly V5 was the best of them all ....
and we know it is hard to improve onthe best ..not sure V6 did...

hey slap me if u wish - it's just a feeling i get and a noticible swing in the 'popular opinion' factor that i see on the boards and in discussions.

sorry

OOTP7 will be the real indication. Markus will now have the resources to code those areas that couldn't get the proper attention before. So I'm waiting to see how that game will address these big issues.

I think it was a good thing he didn't work on the news system as I doubt he could have coded something as good as the SI system in the alotted time. But, I do agree that head2head probably should have been put back to work on the other new features that were implemented, but from a marketing standpoint I guess h2h was perhaps needed to attract new customers.

I like that attitude. Since we've all decided that we have the right to burn Markus at the stake for not pleasing us, I've decided to hold my judgment until Fall 2005. If OOTP7 doesn't blow everyone away, we'll have to fly to the UK and burn him at the stake. Or chop off his limbs and send them to the far corners of the kingdom. Or whatever those Brits do to people.

im not burning anyone - and i believe i had some inkling as to how hard it is to get certain things done etc., etc., etc.,...thats a fact of life , it's a given - game, set, match..
BUT...
i believe also (very strongly) that we should be able to offer thoughts and opinions on the seeming progression of the game that we purchase almost yearly. Someone earlier said that you shouldn't forget the core business - thats very true - but the need to expand to other areas and audiences is also important, but at what cost to the core audience and long time buyers of your product.
You brought up burning at the stake - i was just thinking of holding off on buying till its done...

Hanging, drawing and quartering.
