All-Time Franchise Roster Set
I have completed an all-time roster set using Ankit's Career Averages database. There are 32 teams - 28 MLB teams, a team of modern stars that are not on any other team's roster, a negro league team, a team of 1800's players (all of whom are in the HOF), and an extra team of great players who deserve to be included but didn't quite make it onto any other team's 25 man roster.
All players were imported as rookies and the negro league players were based on players who are considered comparable to them. Basically I chose the 25 most important players in a franchise's history and included them on their roster and decided that players who played the overwhelming majority of their career before 1900 would only be eligible for the 1800's team, so you won't see players like Cap Anson on the Cubs, but you will on the 1800's team. I used many resources when creating the rosters and I don't know of their being any major omitions after having checked lists of all players with more than 2000 hits, 300hrs, 1000rbi's, 200wins, 250saves, and the like. You may disagree on a couple of decisions I had to make, like putting Steve Garvey on the Padres since he really didn't make the Dodger's squad and since he did play for the Padres whose roster is somewhat thin, but there aren't too many exceptions like that and I almost always ended up including a player on the team he played the most with and if his playing time between two teams was close I picked the team he had his best years with. Players are only eligible for a single team so you won't find any duplicate players (as far as I know). I have done some testing with the rosters and found a pretty good set of numbers to plug into the game's engine that will give you pretty good stats - league ERA between 4.00-4.50, league OPS between .720-.770, and teams will average about 1hr per game after a couple seasons if you continually "recalculate using previous season's stats" in the game's engine. The only major drawback with the roster set is that speed ratings and fielding ratings aren't accurate, but maybe Ankit will find a way to fix those in his next database. There are very few stolen bases in the league, but the rest of the stats turn out pretty well. If anyone is interesting in getting a set of the rosters, AIM me. I am posting a Word document with every team's roster. Feedback is welcome. Teams generally consist of 15 position players and 10 pitchers. For example, the Yankees have: C - Berra C - Dickey 1B - Gehrig 1B - Mattingly 2B - Lazzeri 2B - Randolph 3B - Nettles SS - Jeter SS - Rizzuto OF - Keller OF - Mantle OF - Ruth OF - DiMaggio OF - B. Williams OF - Combs SP - Ford SP - Ruffing SP - Gomez SP - Guidry SP - Shawkey SP - Stottlemyre SP - Hoyt SP - Pennock CL - Righetti CL - Rivera |
