Too many runs
I've played about 140 games of my first season and have had way too many 11-10 games. My staff should be decent, but all my starters era's are around 5.00 and lately my pen has gotten ridiculous, as in crushed. It seems to be a league wide problem, as most teams I play are almost as bad. What can I do to get more realistic pitching stats? Im not sure what to edit. And no, Im not being a silly manager, they all get proper rest, etc. Anyone else have this problem?

what era settings are you using? Ballparks? So many factors.. The first thing to do is check your era settings, such as balls in play average, etc. Tweek those until you start seeing the stats your expecting.

Lets see some pitcher ratings. You say they are good but let us determine that. My staff is in the mid to high 4's but my good pitcher is in the 2's........the MR's i have that suck pitch like fools but the good one's pitch well. Overall I find this version excellent. Much better than the OOTP5 engine.

I have a very high ranked relief core and yet I seem to loose more games with them then I should. Some of my high ranked guys with decent control and stuff seem to issue a lot more walks than they should. My four and a half star closer seems more like a one star most of the time. The opposing pitchers seem to have a way of drawing walks and getting crucial base hits also. Not complaining, just a fact. I play solo.

What roster set are you using, and what year are you playing? Last night I posted my league totals for the set up engine using CBLV2 Rosters and Ankits Regular Park Effects.
I found using the defaults I too was getting too much offense, and a few too many K's an BB's for my liking. The posted settings got me pretty close to 2003 numbers For my solo league I wanted to reduce offense by about 5-10% (especially HR's) and reduce K's and BB's about 3-5%. As commish we insitituted league wide steriod testing, thus reducing offense. This required hitters to put more balls in play instead of swinging for the fences, and allowed pitchers to put more ball over the plate. HR totals dropped from 5200 in a season, to about 4900, and average ERA from 4.60 to 4.10. BA averaged dropped from .275 to .266. HR leader usually between 42 and 48. My settings for the "anti-steriod" league is AB 165582 H 45500 2b 8750 3b 1800 HR 5640 HBP 1800 HR 5640 BB 16,900 K 33,500 BABIP .290 (enter manually and NEVER hit calculate) |

Everything is default, I guess I just have to figure out how to edit these things your talking about. When I DLed the game it installed into my FOF file and I cant download the rosters and make them work, so I just spent a day and changed names manually. I probably have spent too much time playing and not enuff on actual game mechanics. Thanks for the ideas guys, and hopefully I can make the changes I need to. Great game tho, best of its kind by far, so I dont wanna come off like Im bitching.

I noticed the same thing. All my relievers are 3-star or better and the last 3 innings are more stressful than my real job. I can't tell you how many times I've had a 5 run lead blown in the last 2 innings.
I also had the same problem in my first season. After doing some research when a player hit his 700th career homer off my ace, I found out that player had Barry Bonds career stats. After looking up my ace's stats, it was none other than Randy Johnson. Here was Johnson's numbers for the season: G GS W L ERA IP H BB K 36 36 16 11 4.93 237.1 237 98 214 He walked way more than Johnson does, gave up more hits, and also gave up 37 HR...not very Johnson-like. |

Yea, I think pitching performance is not very realistic, at least in default.

Yeah...now I just gave up the 600th career homer to Dick Tynes aka Sammy Sosa.

If you're using the default roster set, then your problem is that none of the pitchers in that set start with a talent rating in "stuff" higher than 59.
Over time, all the pitchers in the league will see their rating in pure stuff decline, ERA's will go up, and strikeouts will go down. If you want realistic results, you can not use the default roster set. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...threadid=63184 |

You shouldn't have to "test run" for realistic results with all settings default.
I'm not saying it should work perfectly, but this was a major oversight in my opinion. I would have hoped that someone would have "test run" the default roster set during beta, but I guess not. As far as fixing it, there are two options I can think of. One is to start over. The other is to download the CBL roster set, sim a year and a half, export the player ratings, do some creative copying and pasting of the "stuff" column in Excel, and then import the csv files back in. Not exactly a great solution and it might not work that well but the only thing I could come up with. |
