SP - Strict Order vs Highest Rested Starter

I would have searched the board for an answer to this one but the search mechanism is down. . . . . so

What is the down side to going with the highest rested starter as opposed to a strict order?

If there isn't much of a downside, why would you ever go with strict order . . . maybe in the case where all of your starters were of the same caliber (very rare.)

Thanks

The down side is not necessarily being able to predict your exact rotation.

I switch to strict order when I'm looking for specific matchups in my coming games. (Especially down the stretch)

Is that the only downside?

In the online leagues I'm in we sim a week to 10 days worth so it is most often too difficult to set up certain matchups - so that isn't as much a factor. Although if many of you online players constantly adjust for matchups, let me know how exactly you do it.

There really isnt one, thats what most MLB teams do.

I usually dont use it as I dont want to get my #1 too many chances to get hurt (of course, unless I actually need him), and I like to give my lower starters innings as well (since normally their young).

I don't use "highest rested starter" anymore, I just don't trust how it chooses who is your highest rated, rested starter. In my online league i have an owner whos 4th starter hasn't pitched in a month but guy in the bullpen have gotten starts instead. If you only have 4 good starters go with a 4 man strict rotation.

I like using the highest rested option and then use my fifth starter in long relief when he misses a start due to an off day.

should strict order be use only if you have 5 solid starting pitchers..?

if you pick highest rested..is it realistic? will the 5th starter get enough starts like in the major leagues?

I use strict order in my solo fictional league for basically two reasons. To make the game experience a little more challenging and my 5th starter is usually a 5 star blue player that I want to develop as fast as I can.

Playoffs don't use.

In my case online leagues are about the only place I use it. When I'm in a race I want to know that my top 3 starters are going in the series against the team I'm competing against, and switching to strict order gives you the control to ensure that it happens. If you start highest rested starter, sometimes things can get a little wonky where you don't get the starter you want in the games you need them.
