Winning Too Easy??
Not for me, in the year 2004, as GM and Manager of my beloved Bucs at the All Star Break I'm .500 and 9.5 games back of St. Louis.
My first year I lost 103 games! Second year I was 80-82 Hopefully this year we can break the mendoza line, but I don't see playoffs in the future as the wildcard leader (San Diego has a .630 winning percentage) So my question to your other Bucco GM's and Managers was how long did it take to clean up the mess and make a contender? Just curious. . . I was, as is always the perpertual case in Pittsburgh, on a 5 year plan. . . What are your personal bests with this trainwreck of an organization? |

I'm in my first season with the Buccos and I'm sitting at right around .500 as I approach the all-star break.
First thing I did was pick up a couple of free agents at 2b and CF as stop gaps and pulled off a blockbuster trade sending Kendell and Hermansen to Houston for Shayne Reynolds to anchor the pitching staff. That allowed me to call up JR House who is performing adequtely (.250 and throwing out a lot of batters). Even though I don't have any thoughts of taking the division this year I have a ton of pitching talent in the minors and have started tying up some of my young position players with a lot of potential long-term (Craig Wilson, etc). Playing this game has given me a tremendous appreciation for the job that Dave Littlefield (Pirates RL GM) has in front of him as it's difficult when you have no depth to trade and you're searching to find ways of getting better. Good luck with our Pirates. |
