Taken a bump?
Never saw this before but what exactly does it mean when development report says John Smiths control seems to have taken a bump. Does this have to do with ratings or talent and is it a bump up or down?

I think it is a talent bump down from my observations. I agree that it isn't very clear just from reading it. I initially thought my guy had gotten a talent bump.

Talent "bumps" are downward, just like hitting a bump in the road.

As opposed to "bumping" a thread which moves it up.

The real keyword isn't bump, but "taken"
if it was "given" a bump then it would obviously be upward - taken means subtracted - simple, really. Well, I'm just curious. Will players that I draft and promote ever have a decent shot at having a career where they are still an effective player into their 40's? When I got OOTP4, Jamie Moyer and Edgar Martinez immediately took such big "bumps" that they were useless. Each had great years that year and really didn't lose much in translation in real life. When I got OOTP5, Moyer and Martinez immediately took such big "bumps" that they were nearly useless. Each had great years that year and really didn't lose much in translation in real life. When I got OOTP6, .......... (well, at least they both suck in REAL life this year!) So anyway Just 2 months after starting my season, Moyer who was like a 5-star guy, is now a 2-star, and completely ineffective. Edgar, who was a 4, is now a 1.5, and also completely useless. I sometimes hate this game. |

Helli -
The problem isn't the game in this situation, it is the rosters. Most likely the player the roster created edited to turn into Jamie Moyer was destined to have a career trajectory that ended much sooner than his actual age. Until roster players can edit career curves (and how could they predict the future?) this will always happen. It is one reason I've moved away from real players and play only fictional.

you mean something like that? It is possible for players to last into their 40's, something you didn't really see in older OOTP's |

HOLY CRaP!
Glendon Rusch, 22-1. If he ever goes 22-1 in real life, I'll organize a mass suicide. |

He got snubbed for the All-Star team too...perhaps because all the voters had been too busy mixing Kool-Aid to vote.
