Advice on league set up?
I need to be sure I understand this. The hitting stats in my solo league are higher than I like in terms of BA. Also the ERA are higher than I like. In order to adjust this do I Increase the hits number in the league set up screen ( this makes the calculated average on balls put in play go up) or do I just adjust the Average on balls put in play. (up or down? I'm confused)
Right now it says that the average on balls put in play is .313. I have a player at the all star break hitting .395. I would like a .275 average to be considered a good solid average. How much of an adjustment should I make and in what catagory should I make it to accomplish this? |

If he is hitting .395 at the break I would wait until the end of the season as his average will more than likely drop before the season is over. I've had guys hitting over .400 at the break and by the time the season ends they were down to .350 on average(some went lower and some stayed near .370) If you do want to make changes again I would wait until the end of the season so all of your stats league wide don't become skewed. You could always back the league up mid-season and make the adjustment to test how it affects your league too. Also what ERA settings are you using? If your using a different ERA that would give you different stats compared to the Modern ERA of 1980+. The default for AVG on balls in play is at .296, not the .313 you have. Did you hit the Recalculate button at any time? Like I said, me personally, I would wait till seasons end before worrying about a guy hitting .395. oz |

I've had this happen before at mid-season. See what he he is hitting at the end of the season, the guy in my league was hitting about .410 and wound up hitting .370. The league batting average was well within acceptable parameters.

I'll have to agree with Oz and Steely -
I seem to recall a time when John Olerud was hitting around .400, and look at what happened to him. In regards to what would give you the stats you're looking for, unfortunately that's something that we can't tell without intimate (don't go there) knowledge about your league. There's a dynamic relationship between league totals and player ratings that result in your statistics. Too many factors could cause a well-intentioned guestimate of ours to throw your league horribly off-kilter (aside: what is a kilter, and have you ever heard of anyone being on-kilter, anyway?). It's best to creat a test league and fiddle around with the settings until you get the results that you want (try the "sim x years" option for about 15-20 seasons with "simulate minor leagues" and "player options" turned off in order to speed things up).
