Questions On League Management

I have a couple of questions here. Is there a "recommended" list of actions for league management? Let me explain what I mean.

I was having some results that seemed...odd...a season ago, and I posted about them. My team had some pretty good hitters (according to my Excellent scout) but all my batting averages were below .310. Several were flirting with the Mendoza line all season.

Someone asked me if I had recalculated the season's stats from the year before (when my team performed more like I expected). I had the same batting coach both years.

I recalculated for this year, and had much better results, both batting and pitching. Better meaning closer to what I expected. Some guys that over-performed were closer to what I expected, as well (worse than the previous year).

So, I started wondering, is this something that you are supposed to do each season? Are there other steps I should be doing that I'm missing? What about the "run computer manager on computer teams" button? Should that get clicked periodically?

I also saw Henry's post about adjusting the percentage of influence of the different categories (talent, this year, last year, etc) each month. I realize that's a recommendation for helping with trade issues.

Any pointers would be appreciated! Thanks much for taking the time to read, and reply (for those that do!)

Generally, you can leave all the buttons alone. Recalculate can come in handy as a one shot deal, or if you're running a historical league and want to make sure the results are appropriate to the year (recalculate for historical). Other than that, it's usually best to leave it alone.

The computer automatically runs computer manager on its teams. It's a button you can use if you are manipulating computer teams and want it to rework the teams according to your manipulations.

The percent influences are purely a matter of taste. Personally, I like to make stats a little more important than they are in the default settings.

Is there a chance that you just faced harder than usual competition? It may sound weird but in our online league we had a team that played .100 baseball for a month when one contending team played them a whole bunch of times, then they started clicking (thanks to some trades) and they played around .400 baseball when another team played (that should have been a contender but was not).

Did any of that make sense?

I know what you mean. I thought about that, but this was just consistantly bad. I had a player rated 67 contact, 100 power, 43 Eye that batted a whopping .182, where in the previous season he batted a more respectable .267. And in the following season--the one I reset the league before, back up to .252. Homerun production was relatively constant, though--in the middle year it slumped a little primarily because I platooned him a lot after the all-star break. Otherwise that would have been about right.

I had another player post .343, .227, .316 seaons, again the "recalc" coming after that middle one. My team went from roughly 14 games over .500 to 36 games below, back to 24 above.

MOST of the same key players were there. Pitchers changed considerably, but Team ERA, etc., was constant. This was a serious Offensive drought.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I don't need to touch the recalc. I'm OK with that!
