Hello all!
I have a little question concerning the evolution of players' ratings. I was offered a player in a trade on an online league, and I wonder how good this guy will be. Here's the deal: The guy has great talent ratings (G, G, G, B, B, G), but he is 24 years old, and his current ratings suck big time (1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 2). Is there any chance that even if he is 24 he'll become the star we can expect a guy with this talent to be? How does rating evolution work exactly? Thanks all for your help! Vincent |

It depends on how long this guy has been around. I would imagine that you'll see a lot of growth in his ratings in the next few years. On the other hand, just because he has great talent levels, it doesn't mean he will positively be a great player. He may just be one of those guys who never quite fulfills his potential.

Note - the following questions/comments are just my impression based on my experiences. Part of great fun of online leagues is second guessing someone elses impression of a player, and if we absolutely knew too much about the devel process, that part of the game would not be as much fun.
- First, are scouts enabled? If so then you can't trust the ratings too much, just hope your scout is remotely close or flip a coin for your decision . - Second, is he still in the minor leagues or does he have a major league contract? If in the minors what level is he at? IMO it would be a big bonus if he still had a minor league contract so you have a few more free waiting years for him to develope further. I think it might also be a slight advantage if he was below AAA level. - Third, is it a historical league or fictional player league. Historical players seem to develope quite a bit different from fictional league players. In general it seems batters devel seems to peak at about 25 years of age so you may have a legit concern, depending on how you answered the above questions. |

Vincent</strong><hr></blockquote> Vincent, I'd appreciate it if you could track this guy and let us know if we're wrong. Part of what makes the game great is the fact many area's of the game are so unpredictable, and things like late bloomers will occur in the game too. I've seen guys like you describe get better numerically, but I've also seen their low number (current) ratings drag down their high talent ratings as they get older. |
