pre-1900s question

I noticed on the main site that one of the new features is supposed to be:

- Historical league imports have been improved, and the system is now fully compatible with the latest Lahman Database (www.baseball1.com).

Does that mean that, if we hit "recalculate totals for historical accuracy" for, say, 1890, it'll be able to recalculate? Or that we can import a pre-1900 season?

Also, can we now start with one league and then expand to two when 1901 rolls around?

Haven't seen much discussion of any of this stuff. Sorry if I've missed it.

The improved import is in relation to accuracy and the fact that V6 uses the latest version of the DB including the 2003 season. OOTP used the previous version up to 2002.

There are a number of issues concerning pre-1900 leagues that have little to do with the game. Carlton has posted instructions somewhere on the board on how to create a pre-1900 league. TO answer your questions, you have to enter the league totals each year (since the statistical variation prior to 1900 from year to year is significant). In addition, Carlton's instructions describe how to add additional "fictional" players since the Lahman database doesn't have enough players to fill out the rosters.

As far as adding a league, no. V6 does not yet allow that.

Yeah i think league totals are harder to adjust with pre 1900 leagues because the stats are either missing or so out of wack.

You will need to keep in mind the shorter schedules, fewer pitchers back then etc.

Also keep in mind your record book too. If you play a 162 game schedule you could leave your modern players no chance of breaking a record. On the other hand too short of a season and you have cy young winners at 5-2.

It will probably take some time before you get a system your comfortable with. I would just set up a league and save it and then just run some tests seasons.
