Fielding Statistics -- Range
Hey!
If you look at a player's fielding stats, there is a "RANGE" entry. I am curious, what is this? I've got a player rated as a "2" at first base, who's "RANGE" stat is 9.03. I have another player rated 2 with a 15.0. I'm guessing this is some sort of calculated field, but I'm not seeing it, nor its significance. Also, do Fielding Percentages (the ones used in conjunction with ranges) change over the course of a player's career? Thanks very much!

I'm pretty sure the "range" stat is based on the "range factor" stat, which is a fairly primitive stat based on total chances per inning. It mainly shows how many balls were hit that guy's way. Fielding percentage does change in v6, but very rarely, and not by much.

So really, the Range Stat (not the Range Attribute the game uses) is just an indication of the number of plays the guy participated in, then? That seems rather odd. I'd think you could only make good comparisons in exactly the same game situations. I guess over time, you could assume that players have experienced roughly the same situations (lefty-righty, etc.). I'd have to think there are too many variables there, though, to really get solid info.
