Injury/Demotion Bug
*Posted this in Trouble-Shooting Forum, but more people read General Discussion forum so decided to post this here too*
Have a new injury bug, or atleast haven't seen this posted... Just gonna type out the example since it's easier. - AA SP Matt Peterson suffered a D-T-D 3 week injury. - Placed him on 15 day DL - His DL time was up, and decided to bring him back to AA roster since he is only D-T-D and can pitch with it. - Try to move him to AA. - Get the message "Matt Peterson cannot be demoted because he is injured" - Try multiple times moving him to AAA, AA, A (he has no MLB stats, never pitched in majors). - Finally, giving up, I decide to send a spare OF to AAA, clearing a spot on MLB roster - Move Peterson from DL to MLB roster, no message/problem - Try sending him down to minors so I can bring back up the OF, again get the message "Matt Peterson cannot be demoted because he is injured" - Tried sending him to AAA, AA, A, same message for all 3 - Finally settled on placing him back on 15 day DL again If this is known, I apologize...if not, it needs addressing

there is really no advantage in putting a minor leaguer on the DL. There isnt a roster limit that I have seen and the DL is meant for the major league roster level so that a replacement may be added. There may be a minor league DL out in the real world but i never heard of it. So its probably not a bug.

Not a bug, by design.

Steve,
Since it's by design, can you explain to me then why a player who has a day-to-day injury isn't allowed to be demoted. Either from DL to minors or from MLB roster to minors. Say a MLB player is D-T-D for 4 weeks at 80% and I want to bring up a replacement from AAA. I won't be allowed to send him to minors because he is D-T-D? Please explain this Mike

I do not know all of the details behind the design, but one reason is so that an injured players(who would normally refuse minor league assignment) can't be sent down due to injury.

Aordolin, wouldn't putting a minor who is on the 40-man roster onto the 60 day disabled clear up a roster slot for you? Don't know MLB rules so much, but I seem to recall doing that in one of my sims...seems worth doing if you need a spot on the 40-man

ok i take that back, that would be the only case to place a minor leaguer on the dl. on the day to day injuries, i am certain there is a rule that prohibits a player from being released, demoted due to a documented injury. Thats pretty much the same with all pro sports.

From my experience, it seems that there's a higher likelihood of a compounding injury if the minor leaguer is not placed on the DL. This is only a general feeling I've gained after running a couple of leagues, but that's the way my owners usally handle things.
Of course, there was one player who was on the DL and kept getting more and more injured until his 2-week injury had grown become over 2 months. I kept laughing every time his owner got mad about it. Ahhh ... the joy of someone else's misery.
