I would think if they fought 10 times, it would be alot like their 1st fight. We have already seen them 2 times. I just think that Tarver presents physical problems for Jones ( height, reach, movement).
Also they are both counter punchers. someone has to lead. I have seen Tarver get wacked clean alot more than I have seen jones. Ultimatley the question here is Jones chin and superior defence. Jones has such good defence that he barely gets hit. That "lucky punch" was the hardest I have seen Jones get hit with. I used to have the same questions about tyson ( now dont get all over me about this....Tyson is nowhere near Jones in the boxing department). My question about Tyson was his chin. He was too busy knocking every out that no one had a chance to hit him..........that was until 2/25/89....his first encounter with Frank Bruno. Bruno hit him with a shot that lifted Tyson off of the canvas about 1.5 feet. He shook it off and looked like a raged bull. That was when all questions about his chin were answered. Until the tarver fights, I had no such moment of clarity with Jones. Now I do....Jones said that he does not like to get hit....Im sure no boxer does...but it happened and he looked like a wet noodle in the ring......and it sucks that he said that "it was hard to get up for these fights" in his post fight interveiw....if anything I thought it would have the reverse affect considering his prowess was being questioned about the 1st fight. Anyway...regardless Jones Jr is top 10 all time pound for pound in my book. Almo Last edited by almo; 05-18-2004 at 05:52 PM. |

![]() Look at Wlad. People tried to fight him a certain way and all but 1 lost to him. They were intimidated. Wlad gets KO'ed in round 2 by Sanders. Now, everyone thinks Wlad's chin is weak and now they change up and now they go on the agressive. I beleive that most of Jones' opponents have been intimidated on some level by Jones. Now that he has the appearance of having a weak chin, people will fight him much more aggressively. Consequently, he'll get hit more, and a few will get by cleanly like the one last night. Weak chins are blood in the water for boxers. Jones either needs to make an example of a few people by showing "If you come at me, I will hurt you." (a few early ko's against some agressive opponents will do it) or he'll be facing aggressive fighters for the rest of his career, all who will be trying liek hell to land punches on Jones' chin. That's exactly what he's been trying to avoid. If this fight didn't happen, it's very likely that we would have never seen Jones like he was Saturday night. But now that the blood is in the water, I think it's likely that we will see it again. |

Dude, you could not be more wrong. Styles make fights...Tarver has his number; for whatever reason.

Did you read in "USA Today" that Jones will stay @ Lt Heavy & maybe fight Fabrice Tiozzo? - the French WBA champ

Perfect fight for him: past-prime, slow-punching, slow-moving, so-so chin nobody. Sorry but that's a really poor fight for any reason other than money/title shot. Then again, I guess you can't blame him, considering those factors.

LOL, right, isn't that guy from Hungary?
I heard Tarver is talking about jumping to heavyweight - for the right fight (read $'s). I'm sure he'd love Tyson but Toney vs Tarver might be interesting. |

I was trying to be funny, lame attempt. How much weight can Tarver carry? He's sooo skinny, his legs are like toothpicks.

I thought you were serious because if I'm thinking of the same guy, Erdei is the WBO Lt Heavy champ so it would make sense for Tarver to try & get his belt too. There seems to be a race to be the first fighter to hold all 4 of the big belts @ the same time. I know Zab has talked about it & if Oscar wins & then fights Hopkins in Sept, the winner of that fight would hold all 4 major belts.
Tarver would need to pick up the IBF belt too because he only has 2 belts right now. |
