How do you use Catobase?

I just started a fictional league not too long ago and so far I am 5 seasons in. I am using Catobase for the first time and I think it is one of the most amazing third-party add-ons ever!

Anyway, After every season, I like to backup my league files, generate the league HTML files, Import into Catobase and generate the HTML pages. after every season. I've noticed that as you progress in the the number of seasons, the generating of pages takes longer and longer (I'm up to 17 minutes now)

I was just wondering if anybody imports their league data after every season, but waits maybe 2, 5, or 10 seasons before they generate the actual web pages? Is there a benefit to doing it this way?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I imported 25 seasons at once, and but now I import and create html after each season. For 28 seasons, with "create only this years pages" and "calculate win shares for current year only" checked, it still takes three hours on a 2.4 GHZ p4 with 512 MB RAM.

But it's so worth it!!!

Edit: Oh, close every other program and turn your anti-virus off when generating html. This cuts the processing time for my by about 40 percent.

I run Catobase V4 every after every season. For 90 years of history it takes about 30 hours on a Celeron 1G with 512MB. I also have just about every option on including winshares.

wow...

my god... it takes me nearly an hour after every season to do the html... importing stats takes about 10-15 minutes as well... Does this seem excessively long?

I'm running on a AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (1800Mhz) with a gig of 2700 ram...

I probably should have listed my specs: P4 2.4GH 1 GIG RAM

My league is only 12 teams with a 150 game schedule

That might explain why it may run quicker than 1 hour for now

It doesn't seem excessively long to me. It will take longer and longer as you accumulate more seasons, because there are that many more pages to produce. After 28 seasons, it takes me about three hours on a powerful machine, left alone, with no anti-virus running. Consider also that my CatoBase adds up to about 540mb of html pages.

You guys didn't know the real purpose of CatoBase was to stimulate the economy by making you buy bigger/faster computer parts, did you?

Damn! We've all been had! Who would've thunk it that all this time we were all just innocent victims, bedazzled by a hypnotic array of complete cross-referenced statistical reports, in the name of blatant consumerism!

No, seriously, how do you use Catobase?

I keep getting runtime errors and multiple-step operation errors. It seems pretty self-explanatory but I'm getting caught up somewhere.

I am at the end of my first season, before I rolled over to the next season. I have generated a league report.

I open Catobase and create a new database, at which point it tells me, "Multiple-step operation generated errors. Check each status value."

If I then try to open that database, it says, "Another program is using the database. Please close the database in the other program and try again. After the database is open in OOTP History, you can open it in another program."

But if I close and reopen Catobase, I can open the database. I go into options, I point League Directory to my .lg folder, "Game HTML Files" to the league report folder, and then "data" and "hard drive" directories to the ones that were created with the database.

When I hit OK, I get a runtime error and the program terminates.

The website doesn't offer much in terms of help and the forums are dead. Can anybody help?

Bulldog,

Post your problem in the Mods forum. It's one I haven't seen before, but JCato checks the mods forum and frequently helps out folks who get errors.

Yup. Search for 'Error -76' threads (there are a few), and recently my bonehead (but potentially helpful) 'Error 53' thread.

Sounds like you might be in the same (or similar boat that I was in).

Now that it's working, BTW, I'm loving it. Jeff's got an amazing program.

Everyone give him money, or candy, or something, so he keeps making it, and adding features.

p.s. 540mb!!!?? Sheesh. Long-term online leagues beware. Label in readme should state "Experience may change during online use. Extra bandwidth and storage fees are not included with program".

Well, I figured out the problem and posted it in the mods forum, but I'll post it here as well.

You cannot save your database in your .lg folder. I saved mine in the same folder where I generated my league report, so as to have everything in one place.

And if you're interested, here's my recreation of the 1876 National League season: http://members.fortunecity.com/bdog/...ato/index.html

The league was created from scratch and every player was manually imported. I just ran 1877 as well but am trying to figure out how to get both seasons to show up in the Cato report.

Yep, I was uploading it (you can look at it here, if everyone's not tired of me showing it off yet) to my host, which gave me 500mb of space, and it kept stalling. I finally checked the size and realized that was my problem. So I got another 500mb to allow for future growth. :-)
