Error 53 in Catobase. Any help apprieciated.
I've double posted this (also in the eternally long Catobase-is-released thread).
Sorry 'bout that mods, but I want to give this title visibility, 'cause I'm ready to give up on this thing. ![]() I'm getting an 'Error 53' message. The screen grab is attached. Anyone else ever experienced this? If so, how did you fix it, if you were able to? I had no problems running previous versions of OOTP History with v5, but a new computer, new OOTP and new Catobase have confounded me. TIA folks, -EB

I have not done a lot with the latest CatoBase, but I do believe I had this problem pop up. What I was thinking was the problem involved CatoBase not calling the exporter programs properly. I was able to work things fine when I manually exported, but CatoBase was not doing it when I set it to do it on its own, so I was going to try renaming the exporter files by taking out the "6" from the name.
All this occurred to me after last running CatoBase a week or two ago, so I haven't tried any of it.

I've only really used 6.0.0 to redo an OOTP5 league CatoBase. So what I did when I had the problem I did was manually make the csv and html files (and un-x the option in CatoBase) and put them in the folder where CatoBase would put/look for them. I still specified everything else in options like normally.
Since you've used CatoBase before you are probably accustomed to the manual use of the exporter and such. I was still using the V5 exporter programs, so to use the V6 versions in the CatoBase program folder you may want to copy over and appropriately edit the ".bat" files from wherever your V5 exporter files are.

Well...I can safely say I'm gonna need a refresher course. It's been months since I've used OOTP History (or OOTP5, for that matter).
I'll play around a bit. Meanwhile, what files should I save each year, so I don't lose any data, in case Jeff jumps in here and straightens me (or the program - whichever it is) out. Thanks for the input gmo. I appreciate it. -E

If you just zip up the entire ".lg" folder (though almanac stuff can be excepted) at the end of each season before pushing that "Proceed to next season" button, then rename it like by the year to keep them straight, I believe you can do everything else just fine in the future.
The more I think about my problem, the more I'm wondering about it and how much I am correctly remembering. I was justing redoing a CatoBase, so I had all the csv & html files. Not needing to make those I turned off that option. Then I think I tried to just use that option near the end since I figured I would in the future. And I believe then I would get that immediate Error 53 that would shut things down. Does that happen to you? See if this works. Under options/input set your league folder, the html folder to wherever you put your html files that OOTP makes and CatoBase needs, your data directory, and your website hard drive directory. Turn off the run exporter/copy HTML option. Find your old exporter5 folder, copy the .bat files into the CatoBase program folder, then edit the .bat files to have the correct filenames for the .exe files in the CatoBase folder, make sure the .lg folder is right and make the output folder the same as the data directory you set in the CatoBase options. Run those exporters then, make sure the csv files got there to that data folder, and copy the html files you need (league, lnews, ltrans) into that data folder also. Finally run CatoBase. I believe that is essentially what I did that worked after I got that error.

What folders do you have setup on the options screen? League Directory, Game HTML Files, ...? I recently ran into a problem if the path was longer than 50 characters. If yours are, then try using shorter paths, even if you have to use the old DOS-style names (c:\progra~1\...).
This is a problem in the database that will be fixed in the next update. |

Thanks guys.
I don't think it's the character length. I think my longest path is somewhere in the upper 20-digit range. Attached is the options screen the way I have things setup. Again, thanks for the help. -E

I'm also noticing now that the import seems to be failing on the "parks" section.
I am, indeed, using fictional, add-on parks that I imported. Would that have anything to do with it, or would any of those naming conventions cause such an error? Grasping at straws, -E

At what point does the error message pop up? Is there any thing on the main screen other than the 2 buttons?
In the CatoBase folder (c:\program files\catobase, by default), do you have 10 exporter programs (5 that start with 'cj_' and 5 with 'cj6_')? Do all the folders listed in the Option screen exist? If not, try creating them. Are you absolutely sure the league directory is correct? If not, then the exporter wouldn't create any csv files and then CatoBase wouldn't be able to find them. Are there any files in the Data Directory? If so, what are they? |

This doesn't help enuttage, but my issue it appears was not having the "cj_" (V5?) exporter files. I went from 5.3.x to 6.0.0, so must have not done something to get those exporter files into the directory when downloading 5.4.0 before 6.0.0.

Okay, your Game HTML Directory is c:\leaguesite. Did you create the HTML reports in OOTP in this directory? This directory should contain alot of html files, but the 3 CatoBase is looking for are league.html, lnews.html, ltrans.html. Are they there?

No problem. Glad it's solved.
I think I've found a way to eliminate that step. It seems to be a problem for alot of people. |
