Is ther a tutorial Im missing, or is there an on line manual anywhere? Theres alot of things that are abstract to me and I need to know how they work. Too many things to write here, a link would be nice if anything is there. thanks

You are not missing anything. You want too much. Figure it out yourself as a manual is not a priority. It appears it would have required to much to add the manual at the time of release, or even a month or so after.
'They' (whoever they are) say that it will be done eventually. Until then 'they' recommend figuring it out yourself. (Obviously you have hit a sore point with me and I do feel your pain).

They are working on it now and no need for a response like that. As for the abstract ideas, ask your questions here and you'll get clearer answers than any manual can give.

I retract what I said as you obviously 'know' what is needed, necessary, and there was no need for my response as it was obviously wrong in light of this information you have posted. |

Hey guys - working on the manual as we speak. I apologize for the length of time this is taking - I'm hoping to have this done by the end of the weekend. Thanks for your patience!

Thanks for the update, Craig.
A manual will certainly help Newbies...and because of the new engine it will probably help some of us Oldies, too. I hope it gives concrete examples of the Player Development Modifiers, Age Modifiers...like how much the percentages affect each...What era are the default settings set? (suspect Modern Baseball) And also how to convert the Batting and Pitching ratings to real numbers, so it will be easier to edit ratings...like what is a .300 hitter's rating...20 home run rating...30 doubles...60 BBs...100 strikeouts for batters...and 3.00 ERA...150 strikeouts...20 HRs allowed for pitchers. I suspect that the Batting and Pitching ratings are probably a combination of various ratings and concrete numbers may not be possible to give. |

The board was so impressed with my post, that it insisted on posting it twice. So I removed the 2nd one. Only needed to make that comment once.

Craig,
Any word on the manual status? Just purchased the game and the manager part is pretty easy, but I'm still a little lost on some of the financials, draft ratings, etc. thanks, --way |

Waylander -
Because you're new here, I figured I'd let you know that the answer to just about any question can be found here (in the forum). Just enter the keywords for your search (or even more likely, click back a few days on the threads) and it's bound to be there. If there's anything you don't find after using search, just ask a question by creating a new thread and most of us would be happy to help you out. I know this isn't a replacement for a manual, but at least it's better than nothing until it is finished. In regards to being finished, there's a stickied and locked thread up at the top of the OOTP6 board from Steve. When you see something posted there, you will know when it's ready. - Dan PS - I can only assume that some of the delay is an effort to be complete in its coverage. There's an update planned to the game that will include adding some new features. I'd imagine that the manual is being delayed while the kinks in those features are being ironed out and adjustments are being made.

...and remember that V6 and its manual will have to be supported for about 18 months until V7:SI is released. |

The manual is only an optional extra. OOTP isn't rocket science: if you can't figure out 99% of the game by yourself from the menus and by heuristics, then frankly you aren't in the target game audience. The other 1% of the game you can ask questions about here.

Oh, and those of you whining about no manual - HAVE YOU READ ALL THE FAQS YET?

Dan - Thanks for reply. I've actually searched for things here already. (example: why are some stars are blue and others gold, what is the difference between pitch + normal and just pitch). The reason for wanting the manual is more an effort to try and get up to speed as quickly as possible. Since yesterday, I've already installed the lahmen db and started a historical 1905 season as manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
On the other hand, I tried doing a career mode with full draft and was little confused by the manaement options. Here's an example: I draft Ty Cobb in 1905 and he ends up in my minor league system. Next thing I know, another team claims him (?) Still need a hand in understanding the game in this regard. Quote:

I think it is reasonable to expect that a manual would be available when a game is released. This board is great and most any question can be answered regarding the game. However, with that said, an updated manual for version 6 should have already been available.
Just another opinion. Don't flame me for expressing it.

You know absolutely nothing about development and either the proper way to do it, or the best way to do it. Documentation and programming go hand in hand, even in a 1-man show. The lame reasoning suggested by you (and others) does a disservice to the whole community and says, "Be second rate because we worship whatever you do". I don't understand you people who have 'excuses' for everything that is wrong. I wonder if it is the same way you conduct yourselves in life. I guess we will never know. That is part one of the manual discussion. Part 2 which obviously went over your head is the sarcastic comment I made in reply to a post by the person who said he was writing the manual. He said it should be available by the end of the weekend and that was 2 weekends ago. Did he come back on and say, "Oops, I was wrong. It is taken me much longer than I hoped for". No, of course not. The S.O.P. (Standard Operating Procedure), around here (and I am not just talking manual) seems to make a claim, perhaps put a promise time period on it, and maybe it will appear and maybe it won't. If it appears, fine. If it doesn't and you don't like it, then so what. We have our army of fanboys to make our excuses for us, and just be grateful for what you have. This operation gets shoddier by the day (OOTP Baseball, not to be confused with their excellent boxing product). And it is people like you who encourage this to happen by not having any standards or expectations. It is people like me (and there are many more like me who just can't be bothered banging their heads against the wall by posting), who are annoyed by it, because we can imagine what should be, understand what is required for excellence, and isn't provided because of your acceptance of far less than the best it can be. |

I guess what this comes down to is this.... to accomplish the request to provide the manual at game's release, two items would have to be implemented.
1. Hire more employees to work on the manual simulataneously with the game's development, and 2. Extend beta testing to try and include the first couple patches BEFORE release, so the manual would be correct. I would suspect these changes would bring about a higher price and later release date. |

Once there were paper manuals. But they raised the cost.
So... Then we had only pdf manuals. But they were too expensive to produce on time. So... now we have a game with no manual. Next up: no user interface because it rasies the cost of the product.

For someone who claims to be experienced in these matters, I am shocked and appalled by your post. You are wrong and being foolish. You are also misleading the ignorant masses who congregate here and have some respect for you. Unfortunately, many people (and there are much more than you think) are not impressed by your lame excuses for things. Your responses have become a joke with regards to development and business issues. If I want someone to sim for hours and post results, you are the man to go to. If I have a concern or complaint about the game, I am 99% sure that you will be among the excuse makers of why something that shouldn't be bad, is bad. Shame on you! |
