AI Bug

I cant fathom any reason the AI would do this except for buggy logic.

Player A - main position of 2B on a computer controlled team.

2B range 3 .976 fielding pct.
SS range 2 .977 fielding pct.

Player B - main position of SS on the same team

2B range 3 .951 fielding pct.
SS range 3 .979 fielding pct.

As you can see, Player A is clearing better defensive at 2B, and player B is better defensively at SS.

The bug - The computer consistently starts Player A at SS and Player B at 2B.

This makes no sense.

I could understand if the players main positions were swapped (i.e. Player A had a main position of SS and even though he was worse there he started there), so its just weird.

So does this mean that these players are 100% equals offensively?

I believe that the SS is better offensively. I've seen this alot and its been discussed many times. Its due to the order in which the depth charts are generated.

I play a solo imported v5 league and haven't noticed this but then I can't say I've looked for it either. I am wondering though is the AI looking at the new infield arm ratings? Maybe A's arm is stronger than B so the AI puts him at SS?

It shouldn't matter what their offensive abilities are, as they are both starting and in the lineup. It isn't like one is starting over the other.

They should just be playing each other's position

If it is any help in tracking down the reason:

Player A: Main pos = 2B (comp starts at ss in all lineups) 3 stars
range 3, .976 at 2B
range 2, .977 at SS
Infield Arm = 4

overall 69 66 51 69 70
vs lhp 50 57 47 62 65
vs rhp 75 55 55 75 75

Player B: Main pos = SS (comp starts at 2B in all lineups) 2.5 stars
range 3, .951 at 2B
range 4, .979 at SS (i actually mistyped him as having range 3 earlier)
Infield Arm = 4

overall 58 80 28 71 66
vs lhp 60 86 28 79 72
vs rhp 57 78 28 73 73
