Signing bonuses in action

Here is the thread:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...uer+mark+prior

After one season, the pitcher who I couldn't afford to sign with the #1 overall pick in the draft (Pappalardo) is on the AA team of the St. Louis Bluefish. He pitched 115 innings in A, going 5-8 with a 3.91 ERA. He then went 2-4 with a 3.80 ERA in 64 innings in AA.

The SS I took with the 1st pick (Garney) spent the entire season on my A team. In 462 AB he hit .286 with 16 HR, 68 RBI. He also walked 103 times, so he had a very nice .415 OBP.

Both guys are still thought of very highly by the scouts and are ready to start 2007.

Very cool! This game keeps getting better and better. Good luck with that SS.

2007 has now been completed. The SS Garney got in 273 AB in AA, hitting .308 with 11 HR, 44 RBI, and 55 BB for a .415 OBP. He also had 238 AB in AAA, hitting .269 with 6 dongs and 27 RBI. His OBP was down to .332 in his time at AAA.

Pappalardo spent the whole season in AA for SL, pitching 178 innings, going 8-7 with a 4.74 ERA. He has not moved along as quickly as I thought he would. Both players are still considered 5 star prospects... so we'll see...

2008 has been completed and I'm starting to be very glad that I couldn't sign the pitcher. I called the 20-year-old Garney up from the minors about a month into the season because my SS was struggling. In 358 AB he hit .249 with 3HR, 39 RBI, and 40 BB. His .324 OBP was pretty respectable for a 20 year old, I thought, and he's looking for a big year playing all of 2009.

Papplardo was traded at the deadline in 2008 from St Louis to the Houston Warthogs for a slugging 1B vet. He spent the whole year in AA, pitching 164 innings and going 7-9. His ERA was 5.98. He is still looked at very highly by the scouts, but he has yet to do much since being drafted.

2009 is in the books and Garney played the whole season at SS. He hit .251 in 467 AB, 5 HR, 48 RBI, 37 BB, .306 OBP. He also stole 10 bases. Not quite what I was expecting of him... but I'm just hoping that he has a big jump sometime soon. He was still only 21/22 during the season.

Pappalardo spent the whole season in Houston's minor league system... he has yet to make it to the bigs. 13-8 with a 3.94 ERA in AA. He got one AAA start in and won it... 1-0, 5.40 ERA.

I have started 2010 and left Garney in as my starting SS, hoping it would be his break out season. After the first couple months of failing to hit .200, I sent him down to AAA... I'm not sure when I'm going to bring him back up. He is definitely no Miguel Cabrera, but unfortunately he's not even Alex Cora yet.

2010: Garney was called back up to the majors after ripping apart AAA for a month. He finished stronger than he started the season, ending with a .258 avg in 329 AB. 4 homers, 30 rbi.

Pappalardo: 3-6 with a 3.39 ERA in AA (69 IP). 5-6 with a 5.60 ERA in AAA (90 IP).

2011 is all finished at this point I am very glad I was unable to sign Pappalardo in the draft. Garney has turned into one of my favorite players and is a solid SS. He finished the year with 574 AB and hit .301. He hit 16 homers, drove in 88, and scored 104 times. He also stole 18 bases (caught 7 times) and walked 74 times. His .381 OBP was second best on my team. He was also named to the All Star team.

Pappalardo got his first big league action in during 2011. He went 1-5 with a 5.59 ERA in 46 2/3 IP for the Houston Warthogs.
