Graphics fundamental: face middle of page/screen.
One general rule when applying graphics to a printed page, webscreen, or any other geometrical field: if the graphic has any implied direction (if it’s ‘facing’ a certain way) it should point toward the middle of the field where it’s applied. For example, in this forum, avatars work best when they ‘face right’ from the reader’s point of view.

Graphics on the left side of a web page should face right, graphics on the right side should face left.
