sabotai: I'm looking forward to your report on that fight.
Good point that the fight was in Germany but the account I read was that Harris was lucky to retain his title. I know in Ottke fights, the reports I've read were usually that the reporter did not agree with the scoring & Sven was lucky to retain his title. |

I thought Manny won a close fight, but he needs to do something more than double up on the jab and shoot that left hand.
I think in a rematch he would be out-classed.

I had the fight 114-111 basically even if you throw out the first round .... Great fight, I think Freddie Roach will come up with something and Pac will win the second fight

I had it 113-112 for Manny. I think he lost the fight after that first round; Marquez just landed the more effective shots in most of the rounds. If Manny wants a rematch, he'd better go back to the drawing board and change things up.

I had it 116-114 for Manny. All sorts of credit really has to go to Marquez for not just throwing it in but adapting and outclassing Manny most of the rest of the fight.

I gotta admit, I really liked the draw decision, I was so surprised they didnt give Manny the decisoin, even though I really fell in love with Marquez after that fight. That was one of the grittiest performances I've ever seen, to be rocked and embarrassed the way he was in the first round, his nose was obviously destroyed, bleeding like crazy and swallowing his blood, this guy put himself back to together, and outboxed Manny for the next 7 out of 11 rounds imo. I remember telling my girlfriend next to me a year ago or so, watching Marquez fight, I told her he's the most skilled featherweight in the world, and nobody knows it. I knew he was bette rthan that first round, and no doubt about it Manny is a freakin hurricane, but Ill stick with Marquez for the longroad. I dunno, I thought that was something special Marquez did. Didn't really care for Manny's BS excuse that he hurt his foot 2 weeks ago, that wasn't very classy. I didnt think he told it like it was to Larry.
Ok the scoring. I might take heat for this. Not that it matters, but I won't score a 10-6 round period. Manny probably won by a point but I don't care, Marquez deserved to leave with his titles, and I guarentee Marquez would take the rematch with less problems than he had tonight. My 2 cents

Cotto kind of reminds me of Hector Camacho (Sr). Camacho's power was lacking, I wonder if Cotto's is. On the other hand Ndou was big as hell and in great shape, also he hasnt been knocked down in 40 pro fights, amybe that had something to do with it. Like his fighting style though, he's pretty.....

In no way was that judge obligated to give Manny a 10-6 round in the first, I don't care what Harold Lederman says.
However, I did score it 10-6 myself. 1st Round Manny 10 Marquez 6 2nd Round Manny 10 Marquez 9 (20-15) 3rd Round Manny 9 Marquez 10 (29-25) 4th Round Manny 9 Marquez 10 (38-35) 5th Round Manny 9 Marquez 10 (47-45) 6th Round Manny 9 Marquez 10 (56-55) 7th Round Manny 9 Marquez 10 (65-65) 8th Round Manny 10 Marquez 9 (75-74) 9th Round Manny 10 Marquez 9 (85-83) 10th Round Manny 10 Marquez 9 (95-92) 11th Round Manny 9 Marquez 10 (104-102) 12th Round Manny 9 Marquez 10 (113-112) Manny 113 Marquez 112 Great Fight. . . but Manny didn't look that good to me. I could easily see a draw, or I could see people thinking that Marquez won as well.

yeah dude, Harold was off his rocker last night, sometimes he says good stuff but lately I'm not so sure...didn't he have it 115-100 too?
I think Manny is very beatable if you can avoid his straight lefts and rights when he charges in, sometimes Marquez made him look downright silly with his counterpunching... I agree, super fight. Funny they didn't seem all that interested in a rematch.

I think Cotto's power is overrated but still has more pop than Camacho. Stylistically they don't really fight the same. Camacho was very good defensively, I think Cotto gets hit to often. I’m not sure who Cotto reminds me of going to have to think about that. I was wrong as hell about this not being a tuff fight for Cotto. Although I had him winning 8 rounds to 4.
I wonder how long can Cotto stay at 140 methinks not very. Actually N'dou has been down at least twice. He's never been stopped but has been knocked down. Last edited by ACGord; 05-09-2004 at 07:38 PM. |
