1976 WORLD SERIES RESULTS
Game 1 Cleveland (A) 4 - Brooklyn 0 Bill Delancey and Scranton Bill Coughlin each go 3 for 5 while Jake Peavy shuts down the Superbas, allowing only 4 hits in his complete game win. Game 2 Cleveland (A) 4 - Brooklyn 6 Carlos Delgado sets the tone for the game with a 2-run bomb in the top of the first. Charlie Hough pitches a solid 8 innings and Jamie Walker comes through with the save as Brooklyn ties the series up. Game 3 Brooklyn 5 - Cleveland (A) 2 The game is tight through the top of the 9th when pinch-hitter Zack Wheat lines a 2 run double to put the Superbas up by 3. Game 4 Brooklyn 4 - Cleveland (A) 7, 11 innings A classic game that will go down in World Series lore was played today in Cleveland. Down 4-2 in the bottom of the 9th, the Blues sent it to extras on a two-out two-run HR by Tommy Reilly. Another two-run bomb in the bottom of the 11th by unlikely hero Dick Sisler wins the game and ties the Series at two games apiece. Sisler batted .174 in the regular season with only 2 RBI to his name, but last year he had the key 2 RBI walkoff single in Game 6 to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Game 5 Brooklyn 10 - Cleveland (A) 5 The Superbas send the Series back to Brooklyn riding a 3-2 lead. Carlos Delgado has another great game with 3 hits and 2 walks, while Darrell Evans launches a 3 run bomb to lead off the game. Game 6 Cleveland (A) 8 - Brooklyn 5, 12 innings Another great extra-inning affair goes to Cleveland as the Brooklyn bullpen lets in 2 runs in the top of the 9th to tie it up. Larry Doyle and Bill Delancey spark the 12th inning rally with consecutive doubles, sending it to Game 7. Superba fans are starting to sweat. Game 7 Cleveland (A) 6 - Brooklyn 7 WHAT A FINISH! Leading 6-3 in the bottom of the 9th, the Blues were one out away from repeating as champions. Superba fans had already begun to hang their heads in shame, anticipating another ring slipping away from them, when Red Oldham came in to close out the game. He may not want to return to Cleveland anytime soon. Damian Easley began the rally with a double, and three batters later, Pete Reiser drove a screaming rope over the leftfield fence to take the game and the Series. Certainly one of the most dramatic endings in Random Chaos history!! 1976 CHAMPIONS - BROOKLYN SUPERBAS 19TH CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES MVP: Darrell Evans .313, 2 HR, 8 RBI Last edited by metsgeek; 05-15-2004 at 11:59 PM. |

Sorry for being AWOL lately, but I've got a damn good reason
I became a father for the first time on Thursday, when my daughter, Zoe Anna, was born at 10:20 pm. My wife had to have a C-section, so we were in the hospital for 4 1/2 days. I'll get this (and my other league) going again soon. I'm already grooming her for creating her own dynasty report sometime around OOTP18 Thanks for all the nice comments, too Last edited by metsgeek; 05-09-2004 at 03:25 PM. |

1977 League Championship Results
American League Championship Series Cleveland (A) (92-70) blanks Boston (A) (92-70) in 4 games The Blues repeat as AL champions for the 3rd straight, hoping to win the rubber match vs. the Superbas. Kent Bottenfield cost them a pretty penny in the offseason, but it was money well spent as he powered them past the Americans in Games 1 & 4. National League Championship Series Brooklyn (95-67) pulverizes Cincinnati (95-67) in 5 games This was supposed to be a close series, but Brooklyn makes the Reds look like minorleaguers as their postseason experience serves them well in the sweep. Damian Easley shows surprising power in the 4 games with 3 HR and 7 RBI. Last edited by metsgeek; 05-13-2004 at 01:05 AM. |
