So it was your school, eh? I've been hearing that urban legend for years. I'll send you $5 via Paypal if you post proof.

From Snopes:

Quote:
Names reported to have resulted from misinterpretations of the written word:

Clitoris (cla-TORE-us)
Enamel (EE-na-mull)
Female (fuh-MALL-ee)
Gonorrhea (gu-NO-ree-ah)
Lemon Jello (le-MON-juh-lo)
No Smoking (NAWS-mo king)
Orange Jello (or-AN-juh-lo)
Pajama (PAH-ja-mah)
****head (shaw-THAYD)
Syphilis (suh-PHYL-lis)
Testicles (TESS-tic-clees)
Vagina (va-GEE-na)

Names reported to have resulted from overhearing an unusual but flowery-sounding term:

Chlamydia (kla-MID-e-ah)
Eczema (EX-suh-ma)
Latrine (la-TREEN)
Meconium (muh-CONE-knee-um)
Placenta (pla-SENT-a)
Urea (YUR-ee-ah)
Vagina (va-JAI-na)

Either way, the tale swings on the fictitious parents' lack of education and how this leads them to choose a totally unsuitable name.
Racial names

You must have went to a very large school. If you do a search for those two names on the Internet, you will find lots of people who went to school with those kids (or knew someone who did go to school with them or knew someone who knew someone who dated the cousin of the girl who went to school with them).

Glad you all beat me to it because I definetly call BS on this one. While we are lying I went to school with that kid whose head exploded because he drank a coke with pop rocks in his mouth.

There really was a Mark Lemongello, and he really was a pitcher for the Astros and Jays back in the seventies. I saw him pitch.
