Format of OOTP5 name files - spaces at end of line?
I'm creating a DAT name file for OOTP5. Each line of course consists of one name and one number, as in "Jones 3". Does there have to be a carriage return immediately after each number? Do I have to manually delete all of the spaces after each number?
Here's another name file question: If the names in the DAT file are in alphabetical order, does the game start at letter A? If you have a large name file, will you never get any Z names generated? Thanks for any replies!

Any name file experts out there? I tried doing a search, but it did not help...

Antonin, you can always test it out very easily. Just backup your current name file before inserting yours and create a test league to see if it works.
I just made my own name file for OOTP6 and didn't pay attention to whether I had spaces after each line or not. I don't think having the list done alphabetically changes anything. I could be wrong but in my previous manipulations of name files, I have never noticed the order of the names meaning anything -- just the number after the name.

Thanks for the reply.
I have a test league, but was reluctant to test this particular thing out for fear of corrupting the entire game. But maybe I'll just go ahead and do that. I was asking this particular question because going through line after line after line and adding numbers AND deleting spaces is a huge amount of work, haha. I'm working with v5, by the way. I have a bad dialup connection, so I have to wait for the CD to get here from ViaTech before I can play v6.

In my tinkering I did make one grievous error with a name file and the game crashed when I tried to create a test league. I can't remember what the error I made was; I think I saved the name file in the wrong format. However, it was just a minor setback as it caused no irreparable harm to the game or my other leagues after making the needed correction.
I don’t think there were any significant changes to the way the name files work between v5 and v6

Those spaces at the ends of the lines don’t affect anything. I was recently checking this out, and wondering if I needed to go through and delete them after I adjusted the ‘frequency numbers’ after every name. I left those extra spaces in, and things worked fine.
