I'm so happy! The best of British meets the best of American
I've often wondered what would happen if SI games could get involved with OOTP...imagine the media engine!
And now it has happened, and 2005 - with Football Manager and the next OOTP...will be a great year for us sport sim fans! If only SI would pick up a Cricket game project now (please, pretty please =P). Congrats to OOTP for getting this far, and I hope Markus has a great time in England (talk about committed). Joy of joys. |

Although I've been long a baseball fan, I've never even played OOTP...that SI has voiced interest in it has gotten me interest, as a fan of CM and EHM.
Media interaction in CM is great. Every player has their own personality, completely realistic. How you treat one player might create a completely different reaction in another player. Doing a Buck Showalter impression would be very interesting to say the least. If you manage a Yankees, anyone will say "yes" to a "come and play for us"....you're managing the Rockies and you want a star pitcher? Good luck. Even though I've never played OOTP, as an American, as a baseball fan, and as a fan of sports sim management games, the potential is ridiculous. |

Well, I'm certainly optimistic about the way its going to look in terms of media, player interaction and immersion, which are all things I've complained about lacking in OOTP and all things I've pointed to CM/FM as a good example of how to do.
However, I'm concerned about what's going to happen to historical and fictional sim capabilities, especially given the news of the MLB license. I think I'm not unusual in that I like playing modern MLB, fictional and historical leagues and if two of those three are taken away from me, or even if two of those three take significant hits...well, I'm not sure what I'll want to do. But I have to say the allure of the immersion of CM in a baseball universe is going to at least have me interested.

One of the frustrating things about 03/04 though is that MLS isn't there anymore and America is not a playable league. I used to always start my career with some MLS side and then go to a lower league in England and try to become the first American manager in the Premiership or whatnot. For reality's sake, not many American managers are going to be hired anywhere abroad so I enjoyed to go that route. Except a couple of versions back when there was that MLS bug where the players would be unhappy about league position even if they were in first place and you would get sacked even if you had won the league!! Then I skipped the playing MLS part!
![]() But this might be due to MLS and licensing I'm not trying to knock SI. Just baseball fans should know if they're getting tempted to get CM that MLS won't be there. Last edited by thehatfield; 05-11-2004 at 05:36 PM. |

However, we were very pleased to announce that we acquired the MLS license for the Football Manager series during E3 last week! More information can be found here: http://www.sigames.com/news.php?type...article_id=905 Or discussed on our forums here: http://community.sigames.com/eve/ubb...91&m=783202282

Considering Cricket gave birth to baseball, don't start throwing the insults around =P
Yep, times looking up for sure. I'm a day-to-day guy with OOTP, play by play all games even when the team is having a bad year with no chance of post-season. So the one thing that would make this game complete for me is realistic media/player management. Trades taking days not seconds to negotiate and so forth. And if anything, SI have a much better chance and getting licenses than OOTP because no doubt they have more money to spend on these things. Afterall, they got the MLS license too...which is basically to tap into the American market...but even so, shows commitment to realism. |

So your saying a license shows a commitment to realism?? Explain to me what exatly would enhance OOTP by getting a license that it doesnt have now?
OOTP is a simulation of baseball not a MLB Sim, thier is a differance and with the many add on files, face packs, ect I can simulate current day MLB or any starting year of the past, or a completly new line of history. Their is so many diferent verations of what I can do now including mimic of MLB I cant see what gaining a license would add to the game but increased price. |

It's always possible, of course, but it would seem unlikely. The number of folks who strongly state that the customization in OOTP and the ability to do fictional and historical leagues are essential elements in the game would tend to make the loss of those features unlikely.
Besides, it's possible the influence will work in reverse: instead of OOTP losing the ability to easily do fictional and historical leagues, maybe FM and EHM (based on what I saw in a preview of it) will gain these abilities. I, for one, would love to see that happen. I think FM would greatly benefit if it had as robust a fictional league creation potential as OOTP does... |
