CatoBase problems

Jeff,

Awesome utility again, I especially love the Division Histories.

Two things I've noticed, both regarding Awards. I've got the box for "Import Award Winners" checked.

1. Award names for the in-game stuff isn't imported. Instead of "Most Outstanding Pitcher," on my .html outputs it's listed as "Pitcher Award." Batter and Fielder are the same way. But the two other awards, that only exist in CatoBase (Most Outstanding Reliever and Manager of the Year) have correct titles on the .html outputs.

2. The award winners aren't importing/updating after the first year. CatoBase imported the award winners properly after the first season, but then every season after that simply lists the same players over and over until they retire, and then those awards are left blank. Edit: All-Star teams are doing the same thing - no updates after the first season - and increasingly empty as the Original All-Stars retire.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Gordy

OK, it's a little different from what I thought. It's simply not adding any years to awards, gold gloves, or all-stars after the original year imported. For example, the output I ran after my 1994 season looked like this:

More strangeness - Ohio won the National Series in 1985. Check out the postseason records since:

OK, maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm going to re-install CatoBase, and re-run two seasons.

Check this out:

OK, reinstalling and starting over seems to have fixed this.

The only thing I did differently was I accepted all the old files to overwrite the newer ones already present during installation.

All the data that is being repeated comes from reading the HTML files created by the game. I'd say you are skipping the step where you create the HTML files in OOTP.

When you click on Import stats, here's what happens:

It runs the exporters in this format:
exporter_program League Directory Data Directory

This creates the CSV files in Data Directory.

It then copies league.html, lnews.html, ltrans.html from Game HTML Files to Data Directory. Here's where I think your just copying the same 3 html files for each season.

It then reads in the data from these 24 files.

When it finishes importing, it creates a folder in Data Directory named for the year imported. It then moves the 24 files into this folder. That way, if you ever need to start over, you'll have the data files.

When you're ready to import the next season, it starts over from the begining again.

Nope, most definitely not. I would restore the year, generate the html reports, Import Stats, Edit Awards, delete the html reports, restore the next year, lather, rinse, repeat.

I don't know what I was doing wrong, but skipping "Generate HTML Reports" definitely wasn't it.

Regardless, it works now, and I can't wait to finish importing so I can browse 27 years of history. :-)
