Possible Arbitration??
What does this mean? Could someone please explain to me what this means? Possible Arbitration?? Will he or won't he?
I have a SP who has been with me for 3 years in the majors, he is homegrown from the minors. He is still only 25 yrs old and he just finished with an 18-12 record and let the league in K's. Should I resign him now or wait and see wait and see what arbitration will recommend? Thanks in advance. |

I'd wait and see if the arbitration happends. I've never heard of a 'possible' arbitration. But you could always back up your league if you dont sign him.

Possible arbitration means that if the player continues to accrue ML Service time he'll reach the threshold where he becomes arbitration eligible.

I think (but don't know for sure) that it's "possible" arbitration because he doesn't yet have enough service days to qualify, but could have them by the end of the season if he stays on the active roster the whole time. It can't be assumed that he'll stay on the roster and become arbitration eligible, I guess.
EDIT: Scott beat me to it.

Thanks guys!
When I go to team front office and click on player salaries it shows him as being eligible for possible arbitration. His name is Rolland Eastman and he is 24 yrs old and my only 5 star pitcher that I have drafted and has moved through the minors very fast. He has a total of 97 games started and 614 IP. He went 8-8 in his 1st yr and 8-15 in his second and 18-12 this season. I think the kid is on his way to really becoming a star on my team. I think I had better go ahead and try and negotiate a deal with him so I can lock him up for awhile. What do you guys think? |

It's based on service time. Look at his contract status tab. How many days has he been on the Active roster (major league service time)?
