The official "Grade Your team's Draft" thread

What the thread subject said....

I'd give San Diego Chargers an A-. With what we got in return in the Eli "I'm gonna whine and cry and complain so that I can play in New York" Manning, it's like Christmas eve. We help our defence a little bit in the 2nd round by drafting a D-lineman, and I seem to be the only one who likes their 3rd round pick at a kicker.

The Udeze pick was a huge steal. He alone made the draft for us.

Kenechi Udeze, Dontarrious Thomas and Darrion Scott are gonna help out our Defense a ton!

Dorsey and Moore on day 2 were stupendous picks.

Look out NFL, the Vikes are LOADED

I don't understand trading up to take a lineman who slid down because he was overweight and then on top of that he will be moving to a new position on the line. That move alone makes it impossible for me to give them any better than a C. I didn't see any later picks that impressed me either.

...actually if you were a true Eagles fan you'd know they traded Welbourn and he will be playing T.

B+ or A-

They also got a good player in the non-drafted FA signings in Lane Danielsen from Iowa State. All-time leading receiver for the Cyclones.

Here's my thoughts

1. LT Robert Gallery- The more time that passes, the more I love this pick.

Grade A+

2. C Jake Grove- I like this pick. Should be a solid to very good center for us very soon. I didnt care for any of the RB's or WR's on the board at our 2nd pick, so this was a good choice.

Grade B+

3. S Stuart Schweigert- Sounds like he has all the physical skills and instincs to succeed. Needs to learn to tackle better. Matt Ware may have been a better choice, but solid pick none the less.

Grade B

4. WR Carlos Francis- This guy averaged to be the 140th best player in the draft between thehuddle and GBN. So, we did grab him a round too high, but not near the wasted pick some seem to think. We needed a WR who could fly.

Grade C

5. WR Johnnie Morant- was projected as a solid 4th rounder who could sneak into day 1, so this has to be considered good value. Super talented, but doesn't take advantage of it. A definitie boom or bust pick, but good pick in round 5. If Francis and Morant were flopped I doubt many would be upset.

Grade B+

6. DE Shawn Johnson- Seems to be a decent pick. A little higher than he was projected to go, but not a tremendous amount. I have faith that Rob Ryan picked out a DE that could have a chance to succeed in our scheme.

Grade C

6. ILB Cody Spencer- I love this pick. Seems like a guy who could be very good in our scheme and is a very good value in the latter part of round 6.

Grade A

7. TE Courtney Anderson- Seems like a solid prospect, but with our TE situation is practive squad material. I dont understand why they didnt go after someone they liked at RB or QB.

Grade D

7. OLB Andre Sommersell- Probably more practice squad material. I ask again, why not take a flier on your top rated QB or RB?

Grade D

I'm not sure any 7th rounders would have made the team anyway, so despite the fact that I dont like their picks in those rounds It has very little effect on my overall rating for the draft.

Overall Grade A-

Top three picks looks very good and I really like Spencer. If Rice and Brown can help turn Morant into the player he could be then this would be an A+ draft.

Here's hoping Manning fails miserably. Great trade for the Chargers, imo.

I think the Falcons did a pretty good job, they got the CB they wanted with their first pick, then traded up and got the WR they wanted later on in the first. I haven't investigated much beyond the first round so I don't know if who they got beyond their first two picks are any good or not, but based on the first two picks i'll give em an A.

Browns got a great player in the 1st round, but why do you give up a 2nd rounder to move up one spot? were they that convinced that the Lions were gonna take their guy or alternately, trade their pick to another team who was gonna take their guy? seems like the Lions got who they wanted either way, and they got a bonus 2nd round pick out of the deal....

Bengals C

With the trade of starting running back Corey Dillon to the New England, the Bengals were in need of a running back to play behind Rudi Johnson. Chris Perry from Michigan fits into the scheme of the Cincinnati offense. Not overly flashy, but with the ability to run the ball inside and be a compliment in the passing game, Perry is a solid selection for an improving Cincinnati team.

OVERALL ANALYSIS
The Bengals had plenty of picks to upgrade an improving team, but the results of this draft are questionable. Taking Perry over Jones was a risk, especially for a team that has issues at the cornerback position. Offensive linemen Matthias Askew and Stacy Andrews project to become solid offensive linemen, but the jury is out on the balance of the Cincinnati draft.

New England Patriots

Vince Wilfork DT:
The "Baby Sapp" as he has drawn comparisons to former Miami Hurricane and present Oakland Raiders standout Warren Sapp, for his ability to clog the rush lanes and defeat combo blocks … Recorded 148 tackles (73 solos) with 14 sacks for minus-60 yards and 37½ stops for losses of 110 yards during his career … Also credited with 42 quarterback pressures, five forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in 36 games at Miami. I look forward to seeing him play this season. He is a guy that can come in a make a impact right from week 1!
Ben Watson TE: Regarded as one of the premier tight ends in the country after a stellar junior campaign. Fine athlete with tremendous quickness, boasting the fastest 40-yard dash (4.44) of any tight end in college football.

Marquise Hill DE:Has excellent size with fluid lateral movement, quick feet and good balance … Shows above-average explosion off the snap and into blockers, showing the power to dominate and displace blockers … Has impressive upper-body strength he uses quite efficiently to disengage and get separation … Shows good hand usage to snatch and pull down blockers … Has surprising quickness in his lateral movement for a player his size … Effective tackler working in-line and in space, maintaining balance on the move … Shows an above-average burst to close on ball carriers in the short area and even better quickness to pursue long. I dont know if he will be starting, i would think he would be, and i hope he does. He is a steal for the pats when they got him!

Guss Scott SS: Finished his career with 310 tackles (208 solos), 7½ sacks, 12½ stops behind the line of scrimmage, a school career record with 11 forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 25 pass deflections and four interceptions. And with Ty LAw future in New England in question, this could be a great pick!

- Dexter Reid Conf. Call Transcr...

Has a well-built frame and body structure with good growth potential … Has a thick chest, solid thighs and calves, and strong legs … Quick to recognize and locate the ball … Has the foot speed, quickness and flexible hips to easily redirect in man coverage … Very smooth in his backpedal, showing the body control to be smooth coming out of transition … Plays alert and is very aware of the receiver's drop in the zone … Consistently goes for the ball and shows steady acceleration and timing! He has a lot of upside with talents that could lead to a great career. New england was smart to pick this guy up when they did!

Cedric Cobbs RB: I like this pick up aswell. We got Corey Dillion as the Starter, and Kaulk with be the back up. But Cobb's is a great guy that can come in from time to tim and give a dded boost. He had quick feet and can read the defense well! I like how he can catch the ball and gain good yardage after the catch also, that is a huge plus!

There are some other left but these are the guys that i think will have the biggest impact on the teams future.

Overall Grade on the Entire patriots draft: A-

I'll give the Dolphins a C+. They had to get Carey with the first pick because they are simply desparate for good lineman. I didn't like giving up a 4th round pick to move up one slot, but eventually they made amend on that as well.

They traded the 3rd pick, which at the time I thought was nuts. Only to find the team they traded it to, GB, was even dumber by using it to draft a punter many people felt would't even be drafted (inlcuding his own college coach). Miami turned that into 4th and 5th round picks. They made amends with the 4th round pick drafting Poole from USC, who really should have been at least a 2nd round pick. What a steal. Poole had a viral infection at the combine and did terrible which is why he dropped. In private workouts after the combine he performed like the potential 1st rounder everyone thought. Still can't believe Miami pulled this off.

Then Miami pissed away that 5th pick on a lineman (Hadnot) most thought wasn't even draftable. They also got a decent safety in Bua. He may be OK.

In the 6th and seventh rounds Miami picked up a decent looking OT (Pape) from Michigan, who always turns out good tackles. He might be a sleeper. With the last pick they got some LB from Bama that is being touted as a special teams guy. It's hit or miss on the 7th round picks so you never know.

In the end Miami satisfied their most pressing need in the first round. The traded down in the 3rd and used that to pull a quality CB out of their butt which probably made their whole draft. Then the rest of their picks were just shots in the dark. A decent draft considering they traded away their second pick last to get Smith, their current LT.

I think Detroit and New England did the best overall, with San Diego and Arizona real close.

Eli---well, thats enough said. A 3rd Rounder this year plus a 1st and 5th rounder in what is supposed to be an incredibly weak draft next year is worth a franchise QB. Adios Kerry!

Chicago Bears get a C.

Tommie Harris is a great DT, glad he fell to us. Terry Johnson had 15 sacks this year, so he's worth his 2nd round value. I believe Bernard Berrian is underrated, and could suprise some. Nathan Vasher was a great punt returner for Texas, and a solid corner. Leon Joe is a LB convert from FB. This equals great upside. Craig Krenzel I never liked, and Alfonso Marshall is from Miami Fla (which I'm partial to) so I'll stop there.

Nothing big, but just enough to get by

Vikings - I think it all depends on Udeze's shoulder. If it is fine and he is able to produce this year, then A. If not, it drops considerably, thought Thomas, Scott, Dorsey, and the LB they got in the 5th round (name escapes me right now) were very solid picks.
