I've tried downloading it twice, once last night and once this morning and both times when I go to open the zip file a box comes up and tells me the file is corrupted. Anyone else been getting this?

Sometimes that will happen with older versions of Winzip and Winrar. do you have the latest version?

Hate to post for help Cato, but ive never been able to get previous versions to run and now im having a problem with CatoBase.

Heres a link (screenshot) to the error im getting. Is there any chance you could take a look at it and help me out?

Im a seasoned programmer of all kinds, so dont feel the need to coddle me

This is a online league. The league is in 2015, it was converted from v4 to v5 back in 2007. I believe 4 teams have been added since the leagues inception. Lemme know what else i can do to help, i really want to use your incredible program.

Thanks,
Hank

I had this same problem once or twice in every year`s import and it was easy to correct by opening and editing players.csv. Now that exporter 5 and catobase 5.4 are integrated one cannot edit players.csv anymore, because every time the import process starts a new players.csv file is produced and the same error reoccurrs. Do you have an idea to solve the problem?
The first time you ran it, it created the CSV files and copied the HTML files to the data folder. When it got to the error, it stopped. The data files are still in the data folder. Now, edit the line to fix whatever the problem is. Start CatoBase, go to File/Options and uncheck 'Run Exporter...'. When you click Import, it won't run the exporters or try to copy over the HTML files, it will assume they are already there just like it use to do.

To avoid the error in future years, edit the player in OOTP. This error often comes from a bad character at the end of NickName. It seems this happens if you import a player from Lahman's who has a nickname longer than 15 characters.

cameronbelldina,

I wanted to create something similar to www.baseball-reference.com, this comes pretty close. Here are my 2 online leagues:
GMC
JOBL
As you can see, the look of different sites can be vastly different.

octones,

That's not totally easy to answer. I'd hate to miss something and then you not be able to use CatoBase. I just simmed a standard MLB league and its taking up a total of about 80MB. 35 of that are the .dat files. But, another 35 are all the box scores. Those would probably be safe to delete. I guess I'd just recommend zipping the entire league folder. I did that to the above league and its only about 9.5MB.

bbergin76,

Not sure why you're having a problem. Maybe tcblcommish has it right. Let me know if you keep having problems.

chinaski,

I think it is probably trying to give 2 different players the same ID. you can go to www.equalnicity.com, click on support tickets, and enter one there. Zip up your data files (the CSV & 3 HTML files) and attach it to the ticket. I'll run it and see what is happeneing.

That goes for anyone else having trouble. Send me the data files via the support ticket and I'll take a look.

Thanks

Thanks. It's not a huge deal as I have a lot of room and can just burn the stuff to a CD anyways. Guess I was just wondering what you took stuff from.. but seeing as you haven't even made it for OOTP6 yet, I will just keep everything and work to streamline my own process. Thanks for the answer though!

Cato have you thought of maybe adding a page that lists the championships won leaders? LIke I think it would be cool if it could track the all-time leaders in such a category.

Also, what about the option to add more awards? The JBL models an award of the Best 9 after the real league over in Japan where the best overall player from that year in each position is awarded it. Incorporating it in our Catobase would be sweet.

Another page request: how about a page for each league/division that shows the order of finish for the teams over time, in a style similar to the team positional charts/award charts? Each year would contain a line with the teams in their order of finish, so you could see how the power balance of the teams shifted over the years.

But I myself will start setting up a new fictional league using the "young players only" method..sim 25 years to build up a history, and then see what happens. I was worried that there wouldn't be a Catobase for v6...but my prayers have been answered. Great work!!!! I can't believe its been slimmed down to a few clicks here and there.
I actually back up the whole league file after every season.

Here's what I do:
1. I run the season, including signing coaches, free agents, Rule V, and ammy draft. I then sim through the playoffs, stopping every now and then to check some things out, look at players, teams and games.
2. After the playoffs end, I choose "back up league" and back it up into its own folder named after the year. So the 1985 backup goes into a folder marked "1985."
3. I fire/retire some managers, to give the managers' history in CatoBase a little more feel.
4. I hit "proceed to next season."
5. Lather. Rinse. Repeat, for however many seasons you want before you take over a team.

When CatoBase6 comes out, I'll back up my league where it currently is into another new folder (maybe named "2010 - Current" or something). I'll restore the league from the first season, and then run CatoBase. Then I'll restore the league from the second season, and run CatoBase. Again, lather, rinse, repeat. I do this for each season, and then I've got an awesome, 25-year history, and I get to play the game now without waiting. :-)

I've just been unzipping things through Windows XP. This is the only time it's been a problem.

I was excited to see this cause I always had problems with the old one. I couldn't get player histories to import properly, and I was told just wait for the new one. Well the new one is out, but sadly I can't even get that far.

When it says "Getting Award Winners" an error comes up "Input past end of file"

I figure no problem... I can fix award winners later. Not so fast, says the program. When I click on generate HTML, I get the error "Error 55: File already open has occurred"

Two errors, and now I can't go any further. This is just importing 2009 too. I still have 2010, 2011, and 2012 to go. Any idea how to fix this?

The best thing to do is go to http://www.equalnicity.com/index.php and enter a trouble ticket.

Does this mean we will not be able to manually enter these? Our league votes on award winners and often, they are different that what the game determines.

Ben Music,

If you read further into JCato's post, it says you can go back and edit this if you need to.

How long does the new catobase take to make everything? I only used old version once and it took a good hour on my machine.

birdsofprey02,

No help, there. In fact, it will probably take a little longer. Since the last version started splitting stats of released/signed players, it has to go through more players game-by-game. I've only simmed 1 season in OOTP6, but there seemed to be alot more player movement, which means more splitting of stats and longer processing time.

It's not much, mind you, but since it already takes a while, every additional minute is that much more noticeable.

Ben Music,

You can edit the players, but if you mean edit the names of the awards, the Commish should do that in the OOTP. For players, you'll just have the extra step of removing the ones automatically entered.
