Have You Downloaded The Legends League?

April 6, 2004

Just thought I'd ask if you have had the time to download a copy of the Legends League yet?

If not you may do so for a limited time by click on this link and following the instruction on my temporary site:

Legends League Download Site:

Since OOTP6 is coming out soon, I was thinking of creating the Legends League II but before I do so I am interested in getting your feedback as to what you think of the original league and what, if anything, I might do to improve it.

So, it would be nice were you to tab over to my VISITORS page and sign our guest book and share your thoughts.

Also, it would be great were you to take a few seconds and answer the questions in this poll. Let me know what you think.

Thanks
Spanky

I downloaded it. Great work! However, what if I wanted to use the league as a career option? I guess I would lose all the free agents soon, and many teams would drop players for others who are free agents. Why keep Einar Diaz as catcher when you can have a version of Fisk? Is there any way to start a career season and have certain players available as draftees the next season? I don't think I can do this currently, and would therefore probably not use it that much. Any help?

I had concocted a plan to run a tournament with 144 teams representing different great teams in baseball history. The quarterfinals would have 4 36 team leagues. Teams would have to finish in the top 3 in their divisions to advance to the semifinals and again to get to the final league. Every player in the database would be eligible for one of the teams. The problem is that it took me 6 hours just to pick the starting pitchers for the first league. That's fine right now, but I think by next week I'll be playing a 1901 career league in OOTP6. Maybe I can get the first league done before the game comes out.

Custom Teams

If you want to play with the full version of OOTP and make custom teams using the rookie draft and other features you might consider the following:

1) Make a back-up copy of the Legends League first and put in a safe place. You should backup on a CD or, after backing up, simply rename the League Name in the OOTP5 folder to something like Gold Coast2.lg or Classics.lg (You can always
restore the league name back to its original name later.

2) Make your custom league and teams using the original or backup copy of the Gold Coast.lg file.

3) Make your custom league and teams.

4) Delete all the other "duplicate" players from the FA pool.

5) Change the mode of play from "replay" to "career" in the League setup menu.

6) Import files into OOTP6 when its available. I heard that the new version will convert the OOTP5 over.

I realize this may be alot of work to you - 6 hrs here and there - but it pails in comparison to the 100's if not 1000's of hours I spent in putting the database together. I made this investment in time simply because I didn't want to be distracted by constantly musing over "what if" this player or "that player" was in the lineup instead. I've been playing simulation baseball for decades - ever since I was in middle school and, I know, we eventually tire of playing with only medicore players. With the Legends League, every game is a mini "All-Star" game.

Thanks for your thoughts and be sure to share with me any exciting leagues you create or play using the Legends League.

Legends League Update Available

April 17, 2004

Just a quick note to let you know that I have updated the temporary Farmers Gold Coast League "Download" page with the following two files:

1) A much more condensed and edited file of the Legends League. I did not realize that the file I posted earlier was much larger and much less edited. If you took the time to download the original file you would have seen tons of duplicate players for different years in their career. The new file posted earlier today, is the one I intended to post. This new file is the final "edited" version (in a long line of "edited" versions). There are only two duplicates max for any one player.

This file also contains "revised" ballpark settings and factors as well has an overall cleanup of player positions as displayed on the field.

Note to: OOTP6 users - I have converted this vesion of OOTP5 over to Version 6 and everything works very well. Note: you might have to change your video resolution to either 16 or 32 bit in order to see the ballparks ... 16 bit seems to be the best.

Let me know If you are new to OOTP and only have version 6 and I will post a converted copy for version 6.

You may download a copy of this "edited" version of the Legends League here: (OOTP5 users can convert to OOTP6).

(2) I have also posted a revised "Graphics" file with a few more stadiums and revised settings. If interested, you will enjoy this update. You may download this from the same page as given for the link above.

Smiles
