Mark Prior-Joe Mauer Anyone?
Now this I absolutely loved.
I started a new fictional league with OOTP6 and drafted mainly young players that weren't ready for the majors, I was thinking long term. So the first year I did awful, only two teams had worse records. The second season I spent a bunch of money on quality young free agents and then later cut a bunch of veterans, which did some damage to my finances. So the second season my team has the worst record in the whole league and I don't make a lot of money. But I have the first overall pick in the draft. I scout out the players, and there is a phenomenal college pitcher, 80 out of 80 on the potential says my scout, can't miss. Philip Pappalardo. I want this guy, but when I go to sign him.. he demands a signing bonus of over $3 million. I can't do it because it would put my team in debt over 5 million. I have no one other teams want in a trade, at least no one I will give up or who makes a substantial amount of money. So I look over the rest of the prospects and find a shortstop named Russell Garney. Great range, base stealing threat, and also an 80 out of 80 on potential. A bit more of a risk being a high school student, but he's only asking for $2 million, which my team can afford. So I draft him, and a team in a much better financial situation takes Pappalardo with the second pick. I thought this was awesome, very similar to the situation with the Twins drafting Joe Mauer over Prior a couple years back. I can't wait to see how these two players develop over their careers.

Yeah, I will update in the dynasty forum. I posted this here because I wanted to show how the signing bonuses in OOTP6 could actually have an impact.

That's cool. I'll also be interested in how they both do.

You didn't take the pitcher because of a difference of a $1 million dollar signing bonus? What is the difference between being in debt over 5 million compared to 4 million? Either way you are still losing money. Were the contracts that they wanted different? Did the SS want less money per year than the pitcher? And yes keep things going in the Dynasty section. Will be interesting to see how things turn out and good luck!!

Actually, the game won't let you sign an amateur if his demanded signing bonus would put you in debt over $5 million. I was a little over 2 million in debt, the SP wanted a signing bonus of well over $3 million. The SS wanted $2 million almost exactly, so I figured it was meant to be.

Personally, I'd prefer Cash in trades and draft counted against player expenses and not "Cash"
