Post Patch signing FA to major league contract

Post patch I am still having this problem. Just signed a free agent to a major league contract and he was automatically put in AAA and not put on the 40 man roster. I also do not have room on the 40 man roster so I believe that when you try and sign someone to a major league contract and don't have room you should get a message saying that you need to create room first. By doing this you can circumvent the 40 man roster and sign top notch FA's and keep them in the minors which is what putting in the 40 man roster was supposed to prevent. Am I missing something here? If so please tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks.

I agree it needs to be tweaked, but coding wise, its gonna take some more time, in my opinion.

For every major league contract, it'll have to run a check on the team's 40-man roster. If there is no room, it'll have to either make the contract invalid or it will have to give you the option to send someone down or cut someone.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, you should be able to check if you are over the 40 man roster without a problem. I don't think there's a need for the game to warn you about this. The transactions screen is there for a reason.

As for majorleaguers being placed in AAA instead of the major league roster...this was done on purpose in OOTP5. Then, when minor league options weren't as detailed as they are in OOTP6, players were automatically placed on the major league roster - after a trade, a signing, etc. (no matter the player). This caused problems as some of those players didn't want to be demoted from the major league roster and as a result you were forced to release them.

Since players can still void minor league assignments, I would say that this method is still the best to use - sending signess to the AAA roster.

edit:

Ok, I see what you mean by the warning message. You do have a good point about that, but it probably wouldn't matter because you couldn't use those players unless you promoted them to the major league roster and they were on the 40 man roster. This would also result in you having to demote players to make room for the extra major leaguers you stockpiled in the minors. And since players of that caliber will not accept minor league assignments, you would be at a loss.

Hopefully, that helps.

I ran into a problem when I made a trade involving Mike Lowell. He was put into the minors and I thought I would leave him there for a week to see what would happen. He played there and never said anything about it. I took this as meaning the game was allowing me to keep good players in the minors and thus stockpiling talent. Now I traded him to another team so it is moot now but if I had kept him and just left him in the minors then that would have been something that should not have happened.

Like I said before, I just have a problem with signing someone to a major league contract and then the player not automatically being put on the 40 man roster.
