Star ratings always changing?

So I'm in the first season of OOTP 6, and I'm noticing that my guys' star ratings are always changing. Their numeric ratings aren't changing, just their stars. My catcher has been between a 2-2.5 star rating all year (it's changed 3-4 times). My 3B apparently has just been upgraded to a 2-star (even though he's awful).

I know the star rating is relative, but is it supposed to change this much?

Oh yeah, and my backup CF has dropped to a 1-star from 2.5-star. His ratings look about the same, too.

That seems to be much more frequent that in v.5, but if it's only .5 stars either way, he may just be sitting on the cusp.

The changes correspond with your player’s talent increases/decreases as well as rises and drops from other players in the league. The magnitude could be affected by how many players you have in your league. A smaller league could lead to larger or more common swings.

Standard MLB (using CBL v2.0 or something). Having my CF drop from 2.5 to 1 star-ratings without ANY change on the player development page seems a bit extreme.

First the player development screen doesnt display all development and second, what Steve said.

Still, even with what Steve posted, you're talking about a minimum 15% swing relative to the rest of the talent pool. Are veteran stars statistics based, and if so, is that for the current season, for his career numbers, what?

If it's talent based, a 15% change in his talent level relative to the rest of the pool, whether he's declining or whether the rest of the pool is improving, is still pretty radical.

kingnebwsu, you are only talking about gold stars or blue stars and not a change from one to the other, right? Gold star changes are usually from small increases or decreases in ratings. This could be too small to see (unless you are using 1-100 scale).

I've seen this happen too while I was playing my first season of a new league. I had a 2.5 gold star RF who eventually dropped to 1 gold star despite no change in ratings. The kicker is when I quit for the night and reloaded the next day, he was back to 2.5 gold stars with the same ratings. Maybe it is a display bug?

Stars can change not only if your players ratings change, but other players in the league as well.

I've started a league in 1980 and after I import players from Lahman and get to the 1st year player draft I notice changes in the stars while drafting. If I right click on a player to see the scouting report often times the star rating will change. If it changes it always goes down and always a half a star. It happens right in front of me too, not after he's picked but while viewing the scouting reports. I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this.

Are you using coaches and scouts?

no, no coaches and scouts, another problem I found not really related to this is that in the same day without making any transaction moves my weaknesses change. If I look at free agents it'll say a couple weaknesses and then if I switch to a trade it will list different weaknesses. I find this happening fairly often. I never noticed it before in ootp5.

Right but the point I was making is that he was 1 star when I exited the game and 2.5 stars after I reloaded the game. No actual game time had elapsed.

Geese, no need to get pissed about it. Anyway, I've also noticed players star ratings change more frequently than V5. Earlier today I had a player in AAA rated at 2.0 gold stars. I brought him up for a month and he hit .120 and his star rating dropped to 1.0. I placed him on waivers and KC claimed him. Afterwords I checked out KC's roster and he was rated 1.5.

I actually notice it a lot more with pitchers. It seems like my starting rotation is constantly being changed because of this. I actually think it's sort of cool.

It's possible that if stats are weighted more heavily in your league than ratings that the changing stats (amongst the other players in your leage at the same position) might be contributing to the dramatic changes in Star levels.

Do stats affect gold stars in version 6? That would explain the rather sudden changes.

Not too sure. I would imagine they do now that stats can (and are) a part of the weighting system.

Yep, I've noticed something like this before too. Of course, I wasn't documenting it, so I have no actual proof of it, but I'm pretty sure star ratings would randomly change. Maybe it could be looked at as a display issue or something.

As for the definition of stars ratings, yeah. I was wondering if they had changed since OOTP 5. That's all.

Whateva...
