Catobase 5.3.3 Now Available

Okay, fixed the error in the last version. This error only happend when creating the HTML pages. If you imported data with 5.3.2, it should all be fine. Just use this version to create the pages.

You can get it here.

Enhancements and Fixes

v. 5.3.3
  • Fixed error where program would crash when creating Team HTML pages if a team name contained a space.
  • Added code to remove apostrophes from team names.

v. 5.3.2
  • Fixed error that caused program to only copy photos and logos with BMP extension regardless of what the user entered in the Options screen.
  • Fixed error when calculating fielding Win Shares that would cause a divide by zero error for a particularly poor defensive team.
  • Fixed error that prevented some years in bat_career.csv and pitch_career.csv from not importing into the database. The team field was causing many previous seasons to not get imported. Small catch, though. The career files only get imported once, even if the career CSV files are created each season. This improves the speed of the import since there is no reason to reimport the same data every season. It also means that this improvement will not happen for existing databases. To work around this, the first time you open an existing database with this version, it will delete all the career (pre-sim years) records. To get them back, create the career CSV files for the next season you import. It will only import the seasons before the first simmed season.
  • Fixed error that occured if a player history item was longer than 255 characters.
  • Improved reading of player histories. Should now get each item more realiably.
  • Added message box to inform user of how many All-Stars are imported.
  • Added a check at the beginning of the import process to prevent importing the same year twice and to prevent importing if the season isn't over.
  • Added better handling of Free Agents. Now, if the program cannot figure out the team, a screen will pop up allowing the user to select the correct team from a dropdown box.
  • Improved the HOF screen to show stats from both pre-sim years and simmed years. The totals now reflect both as well.

Is it ok to upgrade from 5.3.1 to 5.3.3 or should we do the two step upgrade?

Tks...

Excellent, as usual.

I went from 5.3.1 to 5.3.3 with no problems. Don't think you would either (you could even upgrade from an older one, I'd expect).

Pardon me for any dumb questions...

I haven't downloaded any versions yet. Can I just download the upgrade? And where can I find a Cato tutorial?

I've put off trying to use Cato before, because I thought it may be too much of a pain. Is it easy to implement?

You'll need to download the full version of 5.3.1 and run the install program. Then download the update to 5.3.3 and unzip it into the install folder and overwrite the existing EXE file.

They is a step-by-step readme included in the installation.

The version I have been using is labeled 5.3.0.

How should I get from there to the latest version? A new install of 5.3.1, upgrade to 5.3.3 and then move my .mdb file and website output over into that folder?

You can download the upgrade to 5.3.3, unzip it to the folder where CatoBase (ootphist) is installed and overwrite the existing EXE file.

You don't need to move the mdb file, it can be anywhere. When you open the database, the program will update the database.

Not sure if anyone else is getting this or not, but I am getting an invalid procedure call or argument whenever I try to import the award winners.

I've followed all the directions and I am creating the HTML files as we speak. Unfortunately, the only league I have going right now is in 2020 so its quite a big folder of stuff. The Catobase seems to be working fine but boy is it slow since i'm in 2020.

So what do I do now after everything is done?

Do I have to do the exact same thing every season? I used the ExporterV5 do I need to go through all that again each time? Can I just add on each season (AND WILL IT BE FASTER?).

I read somewhere that there was a new version coming out that only required a click or two to do all of this. Did I read wrong or is that true.
