hit and run - good contact hitter at the plate, usually with a man on second (sometimes first) so a base hit would assure he scores.

Guard line: protects against extra base hits... used in late innings of close games.

Infield in: Man on third and you are trying to prevent him from scoring... usually used late in games. Having the infield in also increases the chance for hitters to slap a hit past the infirelders.

Outfield in: Usually last resort to keep the opponent from scoring... rarely used. If they have a man on third with less then two out, move the outfield in and it will increase your chances of throwing runner out at the plate.

Corners in: Bunt situations... prevents fast players for bunting for a hit.

I would not use hit and run with a runner at 2nd base. A whiff pretty much guarantees getting thrown out at 3rd, and you lose a runner who was already in scoring position.

I'll hit and run with a runner at 1st and a high contact hitter at the plate, less than 2 outs..with the intention of avoiding a double play.

...or creating one if your hitter lines out as mine always seems to!

hit & run runner on 1st less than 2 out.....guard lines if they have a runner on 1st and 2 out...infield in usually runner on 3rd less than 2 out.....outfield in usually at the end if its a runner on 3rd less than 2 out so you can throw him out at home if its a base hit, when a sac fly will win it anyway so the OF dont care

I use hit and run to stay out of double plays. So usually its with a decent runner on base and a good contact hitter. It also helps to be facing a weak armed catcher. I also use it to force a runner to attempt a steal, since in OOTP a pitcher who is good at holding runners can totally prevent any attempt, the success % drops but with the right runner and catcher it can work...

You can throw a runner out at home in that situation? Or do you mean runner on 2nd base with a single?

If I have a guy on 3rd with 1 out the infield is in and I need this run and have a good hit 'N run guy up I will hit and run. This way he'll score on a ground ball. At least he use to in OOTP5.
