GamePlay Not as Good

I think the new features are great - but the aestetics of the gameplay have taken two HUGE steps backward in my opinion. It's not as good as OOTP4 and can't even compare to OOTP5 when playing the actual games out.

I don't like the play-by-play on the left of the screen, and especially, covering the out-of-town scoreboard. I like to glance at the scoreboard while the play-by-play is in progress of routine plays. And to read the text on the left of the screen makes me feel as if I'm looking away from the "action" (read: field), whereas when the play-by-play was just under the field, I could easily see where everything was taking place. Almost like my eyes have to travel too far from one to the other with the play-by-play on the left.

Also, I REALLY do not like the watermark images on the scoreboard. I want the scoreboard to look like, well, a scoreboard.

And the fonts are not as easily readable. (Scoreboard, play-by-play)

Change is not always a good thing. I know that you want to change things enough so that it doesn't look like you just slapped a new name and a few new features on an old product. But when you've got something "right" you shouldn't fool with it. These seemingly minor details affect the game's playability, at least to me. This is a great game, but I don't think I'll play it as much as I played OOTP4 or 5 for these little details.

I'd like to see the old game format restored, or at least given as an option.

I've only played a few games so far, but I am already feeling it in my eyes.

Judging by the feedback so far, I would guess the pbp font will get bigger. As far as the pbp being on the left is concerned, I like the fact that there is twice the space to display long pbp scripts, but it feels off-kilter to be always looking top-left. FWIW, I'd rather have the pbp centered.

I agree for the most part. I would like to see the font for PBP get bigger, and if it could be centered again as it has been in past versions, I think that would be better. These aren't issues that are keeping me from playing, but they would make things easier for many people.....and their eyes.

The first thing I thought when I first played out a game was that it no longer feels like you're actually watching a game as you spend all the time staring at the top left of the screen. The whole game screen just feels rather cluttered to me now and I think I need to buy a wallscreen monitor to read some of the fonts.

The new features and engine might be great, or not, I'm still unconvinced but my first impression is that I'll be doing mostly simming on here and use older versions when I want to play out games. A lot of change for changes sake I think and not all of it good.

I agree with the original poster: OOTP6's new interface = two huge steps backward.

I agree - I think the pbp screen in 5 was much better.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.
