where are the additions we wanted ?

First of all I think the game is good and I know there's lot's of work into OOTP 6 but I really don't understand that most of the additions the fans wanted since OOTP 4 are not in the game.

1. Where is a better news system, nobody playing this game longer than one season looks at the news anymore.

2. Where is an enhanced owner mode, in which the owner asks you to to cut players build fan basis etc...

3. What about the FA signings and extensions, nothing has changed here either like bonuses etc...

4. What about something like a fan favourite voting for each team or even All Stars voting.

These are just some of the things that 90% of the fans really wanted in the next version. To be quiet honest I think that OOTP is going in the wrong direction. I don't care if a pitcher get's 210 K's but "only" 185 would be realistic. This game has gotten more realistic but what about the game fun. Since OOTP 4 nothing really has changed about this and OOTP is not only about online leagues, still most of the guys play single mode.
I'm very dissapointed and have been buying OOTP since version 3, but I won't buy OOTP 7 unless something has changed about the issues I mentioned and I know that most of the people in the online leagues I'm in feel the same.

Sorry but this had to be said and it's really a good game but I've just been missing some things that we all thought would be in this new game we purchased.

Above you will find a link to the newsletter which lists "most" of the new features stated to be included in v6. The one's you've listed were not listed as part of the promised new additions that I could find. While they would each be welcome features none of them were promised for v6 release.

We're sorry you feel the way you do, but the feature list was posted very early in the process. There are always more things to add than the time for a single release will allow, and all the items you mentioned are still on the "to do" list. We will continue to add more features and enhance current ones as time goes on.

I'm pretty sure most of thse were addressed during the build up period to the release date. In fact, I'm positive Steve replied to at least one thread within the last week saying that News would not be changed.

And I said it in one of my posts, all the people screaming for the game to be early are now screaming that it came out at all. Markus just can't win.

I, also, would like to see those features added, but I am definitely impressed with V6 thus far. I stayed up way too late playing the game. The features added have made the game more enjoyabe so far. I am sure most of the OOTP community is happy with the new features.

Good job guys !

For what its worth I agree with a few points of the original post. In most hobbies there are groups that demand extreme realism, bolt counters in model railroading as an example. I tried the demo of the .400 pro basket ball game and hated it, they included all the stupid basketball financials that make pro basketball a joke in my opionion.

That said I have purchased every version of OOTP, run an online league, have done alot of graphic things for the communtiy and support the game. But for my interest, and I think the majority of fans, I dont want all the sorted rules that have evolved due to pro sports labor agreements, and alot of the "new features" included in OOTP 5-6 really have no interest for me and just make the game more complex than I want. Needless to say I turn them off. I understand that the extreme reality group demands these things, or they will attack the game relentlessly. But I think the majority of people buying the game just want a fun playable game.

Keep up the good work.

It's a difficult balancing act. I think you'll find a ton of people who actually do want more realism.

Yes it is a difficult balancing act and I hope that most of you will see that we are trying to enhance all aspects of the game. Some areas maybe not as much as a few would like but we want to continue to improve every area of the game.

Thanks for your support and encouragement.

In past versions, we've seen things like play-by-play variety and additional news stories added within patches. I haven't played v6 yet, so I don't feel qualified to comment on it directly, but I think it's possible that some of these issues could be addressed in a patch. This is version 6.0 still, after all.

My two cents...

First I am for all the things in the original post, but as others have said before in other years the game is a work in progress.

So far I am very impressed with the new game. I for one like the realism with the rule V etc. It's not so I can sit here and rack my brain though the game making me think is fun. I like it because it makes it harder to compete against the AI.

When the new engine was announced I for one figured that would be the only major change we would see. I'm not surprised, as some are, that the game looks almost the same as v5 or the news got left behind one more time after all the focus was the new engine. What I am hoping for now that the new engine is in place is that next year it will only need tweaking leaving more time to implement other things like the news etc.

One thing I think the game needs desperately for the next edition (here we go again already) is a professional writer to handle the news and scouting reports, adding much more variety and better writing style. I think it would really benefit the game, and there are probably any number of excellent writers here on the boards (I can think of 4-5 right off the top of my head) who would be more than up to the task. It wouldn't surprise me at all if some of them would be willing to freelance this at a pretty reasonable price.

Those of us English major types and others who deal with words on a regular basis would really get more out of the game if this was added in the next version IMO.

One additon I'd love to see is, for historical leagues, the ability to have the draft in June, and still have players be able to be imported from the Lahman. That way, in June, if you see you get a good rookie, you won't try and resign a player at that particluar position. I love the new version, it looks great the the additional ratings, features are great!!

Not to nitpick, but I think we're supposed to wait for the ideas for future releases until we've played this one for a week or so ... heaven only knows I've got a "short list" of topics about the length of my arm.

Somebody mentioned a professional writer .... hey, I've been published a couple of times and I'd be more than willing to contribute... yes, FOR FREE ;-)

OK, Here's my opinion...

I think OOTP 6 is wonderful. I don't think everyone realizes how much work went into the new engine, which was the primary upgraded feature for this version. Not only was it upgraded, but Markus built it from the ground up again and gave us a much stronger engine.

Now I know alot of you are saying, what was wrong with the other engine and so on and so fourth. But this engine is much butter from what I can tell so far. And if you think about it this way, maybe you'll like it more now. With the new engine, with time, Markus will be able to improve on everything else including AI, Trades, FA's and more.

Everything takes times tho, it can't be done over night. And with Markus' track record, I am sure we will see new features and improvements with patches. And then, with the new engine out of the way think of how much time Markus will have to put into OOTP 7 and implement more of the features we want.

I agree..I have been playing OOTP6 now for a little while..and it feels like I am playing OOTP5....to be honest...the only thing that changed that I am even noticing is the trades are working better. The news stories..all the same...the skins are even so simular and they are still hard as hell to modify meaningfully....I am glad that all of the changes that were made are in there...but I am sad that none of the creative aspects were touched...

I think we are going to be playing the same basic game for another year...and all of those..."Don't touch the all-star game, news stories, or anything creative and make sure that pitchers have 22 walks in 1942 rather than 23..." will be happy this time around.

If anyone ever bought FPS Baseball 98...you might remember how simular it was to 97....that is kinda how I feel this time around.

One thing I love about Markus and OOTP though...is that they don't drop features to add new ones...and so I think that this Stat-o-matic release will pave the way for more creative enhancements in OOTP8...bottom line...

Start the chant now....drop ITP! Use your creativity to make OOTP better rather than finding interesting things to happen in a bar..leave that to Maxis...

I agree with what Skywalker said in the original post. He's talking about what the fans wanted in v6 and not what was promised in it. Additional to the improvements he mentioned, here are some of the additions I wanted to see:

1. International scouting/foreign players.
2. GMs trading players according to team situation (rebuilding, financial crisis, division race, etc.).
3. Teams having to give up a draft pick when signing a good free agent.
4. Player(s) to be named later (in a trade).
5. Rainouts and rescheduled double-headers.
6. New ballpark construction/improvements to existing ones.
7. Better player-team-manager-fan interaction.

I've seen arguments that OOTP is NOT supposed to mirror the MLB. Then I ask, why are MLB rules being added? Is OOTP supposed to mirror the Mexican or Japanese leagues? When people think of baseball, they think of the MLB. It doesn't matter if a certain MLB rule or the way the league is run is sensible. They should be implemented in OOTP.

Right now I feel that OOTP is not a game and just a program that spit out numbers. I lose interest in my team after a couple of seasons. I decided not to get OOTP 6 even though I've bought versions 3, 4 & 5. Maybe I'm spoiled by CM 03/04. I just didn't see the need to upgrade from v5 to v6.
