Requesting graphics critique

Just made my first real attempt at graphics work for my webpage, interested to get some opinions from those I consider experts here on this forum.

If you get a chance, head over to ZouDave.com and let me know what you think of the graphic on the front page. Good or bad, I'd love to hear some comments and suggestions.

Thanks!

Some of the stuff on the image is a little distorted such as the OOTP logo and the players. I personally always try to keep everything the same proportion. Another thing I think is the pitcher silouette, the edge is a little jagged, maybe put a blur or a layer mask on it. Everything else looks good and I love your baseball almanac logo on the top right corner, very baseball-ique. Great resolution, really gives a neat and clear feel for it.

just my 2-cent.

I agree with Cuss just about some of the rough edges, maybe a slight blur around the edges might help fade it all together a little better.

Don't get me wrong! That graphic still beats the crap out of a lot of league graphics out there.

I think as far as the design, it's outstanding, bringing all the movie stills together and the layout of it all.

I do like the "fire guy" in the middle.

Still overall, I'm giving it an A. That is very nice work.

I haven't read the other posts (way too lazy), so if this has already been said, then oh well.

The first thing I noticed when I saw the image was it looks stretched. That's my #1 or #2 pet peeve when dealing with graphics - stretched images, or distorted graphics. You could try taking the original, and adding a top and bottom black margin to it to fit a certain size.

As for the rough edges on the fiery layer (which I did notice mentioned), either do some kind of blur, or if you know your way around an advanced graphics program such as Photoshop, try doing something to just help blend it with the rest of the image (I'd try using a layer mask). If you can get that blended in just a little more with the rest of the image, I think it will look great.

Despite those things, though, I still think it looks very good. Like shub said - better than most league graphics.

thanks guys, I do appreciate it.

I'm working on learning just what in the hell you all said to me now :-) Layers? Masks? Guh? ;-)

Actually, I moderately understand *what* you're saying but now I have to learn *how* to do it. I'm using Fireworks to do this, and have had absolutely no instruction or anything on it...just playing around with it. I got it through work and figured I might as well see what it was.

So I'll do some reading and see what I can learn, and maybe I'll bump this message back up when I make some changes.

Thanks for the input!
