Annoying fouls in PbP.
I'm usually a simmer most of the time, except for playoffs, and recently I've been doing radio broadcasts of World Series games for my online league, and what really annoys me are the repeated foul balls during PbP.
Are they annoying to you and if so, does anyone know if that is going to be fixed in V6 thanks

This had been mentioned more than once but I never read anything from a developer or tester that they considered it an issue and were going to address it.........

Do you think that there are more fouls than in real life?

I think the issue is the constant clicking and reclicking to get the final result which slows down game play when you are playing full seasons game by game....now there might be some who change their batting instruction after a foul ball or two so the need for each pitch may be necessary but I wouldn't mind an option where you can simply read that the batter fouled off X number of balls before reading the result of the at bat...the pitchers pitch count would then reflect the number of foul balls mentioned....as an option only though.....

I don't mind a foul ball every once in a while for variety, but when I have to click five or six times to get to the action pitch, it really takes away from the flow of the game. It's even more pronounced when you're announcing the game for a radio broadcast.

Foul balls are a part of the game. It doesn't take that long to click through it.

I agree, and if the PbP was pitch by pitch then I wouldn't have a problem, but since the PbP is the action pitch, then they should happen less often.
(Translated into Government speak) I will have to look into your evaluation of your comments, and if PbP was PbP then I, meaning we the people, wouldn't have a problem, but since the PbP is TAP, then they, meaning those of us not we, it should, by congressional law, happen less often.

The only thing I'd like to see is that after a certain number of pitches an at-bat, the batter's chances of getting a hit improves. When you see six-eight pitches in an at-bat, you've seen all the pitcher can possibly throw at you.
But foul balls can made an at-bat, especially in a pressure-packed situation (tying run on second in a one-run ballgame late in the game) very stressful, but in a good way. |

The foul balls can be annoying sometimes.

I find the foul balls incredibly annoying since we're not in a pitch-by-pitch system. If I'm seeing fouls, I should be seeing balls and other strikes.

I dont think it would be a problem if the play by plays were actually pitch by pitch.... or could at least be set that way as a customization... but pitch by pitch would take a long ass time to broadcast

I agree that pitch by pitch would take a long time and pbp is fine but lets limit the amount of fouls. I mean sure a ball hit down the line deep could keep your interest if the same pbp isn't used everytime and everytime it is a foul ball. If one time it's foul and then the next time, with almost the same wording, it's fair, then that would make sense and heighten the drama, but not repetitive fouls.

I agree on both sides. While fouls are a part of the game, and should be in there, they shouldn't happens 5 times in a row before getting the play. Yes, it does happen in MLB, but not usually more than three per pa. And in OOTP pbp, you only have a foul with two strikes. Fouls never occur as a first strike, meaning there's already anywhere from a 0-1 count to a full count before it pauses for a foul ball. While this is because its play by play not pitch by pitch, changes to the foul algorithm would be welcomed.

The situation with "foul balls" has not changed since v5.

v7?
Seriously, this is the worst part of playing out games for me. It's beyond annoying...it's obnoxious. |

JPWagner already touched upon my view of how it should work, but I need my +1...
I'm all for having foul balls in the game, they need to be there... but they need to be a part of the play by play, not something that causes the user to reselect their batting/pitching options... if I choose to swing away, the play by play should read... 1-2 count... here's the pitch... foul ball... foul ball... foul ball.... foul ball... batter singles up the middle... (or batter strikes out...) I shouldn't be forced to reclick 5 times for 1 stupid at-bat...

I like the foul balls.
If you want to talk long at bats, check out Frank Thomas vs. Darrell May, first inning. |

Reading this thread about so many foul balls has me thinking about taking a shower!
