Fantasy Draft?

Do you guys do a fantasy draft when you start your fictional leagues? I was wondering if that would be the best idea or sticking with the team the CPU gives you is best.

I got the first vote.

I do a fantasy draft when i start a fictional league just to give me some control over who i have. It also gives a little bit of a story line to start with when you can look and realize that you passed up on a future 7-time MVP for a 36 y/o RP in the initial draft.

I also like the history that gets built when you do a fantasy draft. Some of the guys you dont pick can go on to be hall of famers, your division rival, or your favorite player.

That said, not doing a draft might make the game a little more challenging since you dont get to choose your guys. Of course drafting in the last position can also be a challenge .

Do you get to choose where you draft, or how is it figured out? And is it snake form?

If you are in manager mode, you cannot pick the order, but I beleive if you are not yet in manager mode you can randomize the order until you have a desired drafting position.

No the draft is not in snake format, but just like a real amateur draft.

You can set up the inital draft anyway you want....it will spit a initial list out or you can click the random button to shuffle the teams, or you can hit the custom order which will ask you who picks 1st, 2nd, 3rd ect ect...

You can also choose serpentine or straight draft formats.

If I play with the default setup, I don't draft. If I create a custom league with custom locales, then I draft and have the computer pick everything. When doing the setup, I know which team I want, so I can't initially horde the prospects.

The newer versions of the game have become much smarter for picking prospects than in the older versions. Right now I have found it tough to draft a team that is championship caliber and also have a really good system.

I've done it both ways: fantasy draft where I make the picks for my team, or choose a team to run and let the computer draft it all, then run the team from there.

I prefer making my own picks, just so I can tailor my team the way I want from the outset, but it can be more challenging to get stuck with an old, crummy team that you have to try and rebuild.

Ah, I think that initial draft is one of the most intriguing parts of the game. I pour over those players, and a draft usually takes me at least a night or two to complete, right down to that last 50th pick. Maybe I just like to get more of a feel for the players, and give them a personality. I always imagine when I get down to the last 4 or 5 picks, a huge auditorium that is quickly emptying as teams make their picks. And with each pick of those last picks there is a player who is just happy to have been selected. I also follow that 50th pick I made as well. Just to see if he can take advantage of landing a spot on my team, and not on the dreading after draft FA list. Maybe I throw a bit too much imagination into it, but it gives it a whole new dimension for me.

What happens to your minor league team after the fantasy draft? Are they generated by the CPU, or what?

Since the draft is only 50 rounds long, enough for your 25 man roster, and scattered minor leaguers, I just auto fill the minor leagues, league wide. It usually works out fine.
