Welcome to the tradition...

Is it just me..or does this all seem very familiar...

To those of you that are new to the world of OOTP..and what seems to be most games that are simular...there is a yearly tradition that occurs when the next edition comes out...

Basically..what you are experiencing is something that we saw with OOTP4 and OOTP5...and just about every patch that came out for both of those titles...and just about every other game from 400 Software Studios and OOTP Developments...

I am getting to the point where I almost look forward to the "When is it coming out hype..." I remember last year when the scores of messages went up (and we even knew when it was coming out) but when it finally came out...it was like Christmas morning...

Then everyone plays until they find every bug that is still left..and about a week later..."When is the patch coming out?" posts begin.

I know it seems annoying..especially if you haven't owned any other OOTP games and are waiting for your first..to which I say..you won't be dissapointed..but it is all part of the tradition and the "necessary evil" that comes with games such as this that are marketed and made in this fashion.

The good news..for everybody in this tradition...is that those people that are annoying the heck out of you right now..rather they be a fanboy...or someone who seems a little anxious about all this...are going to be the very people that as the next year goes by...will make OOTP6 better....and eventually OOTP7...

Go to any of the boards...for any of the text based simulation sports games..and you will see the same tradition..played out every time..every year...and strangely...it works..

The alternative is to go play games on your PS2 or your Xbox..the games that have continually dissapointed fans of this genre by eliminating the very things we like each year..to replace them with graphics of pixelated cheerleaders or color commentary that gets out after the second time you play the game...At least those games come out on-time and quick...I mean...you can already buy MLB 2005...what the heck?

For those of you that are newcomers..welcome aboard..welcome to the tradition...this time next year..you will find yourself comforting someone and telling them that Markus NEVER lets the fans of this genre down...

For those of you that have been around....remember the anxiousness you had for the first time you waited for an OOTP game...

Sad to say..but there will be "When is OOTP7 coming out" posts...hey wait a minute...I guess it is a good thing that there will be those posts..because that means the game goes on...

...and so does the tradition...

Now I am going to go play some TPF or ITP or..damn...when are they going to patch those games...

For all of those that are sad about not being ranked higher by the board...I have been posting for three years now..and am still a rookie...I hate the minors! One day I will be called up!

Yeah, well put Bogie.

You sound like someone who has been posting for three years.

But yeah, this phenomenon happens in almost every forum.

FPS Football, Madden, High Heat, Jump Shot Basketball, City of Heroes... same stuff. It's crazy.

I'll take the under on this one. Probably a day or two after release.

Yeah, I agree with Bogie's comments. It's like this on every board and it does generate huge amounts of excitement. I myself am passing time by playing TPF....

Have you used any of my mods for TPF? I am hoping there will be some graphics in OOTP6 that I can modify and make some cool mods..Markus usually programs pretty tight though..uses most of the space on each page.

And this patch will add H2H as well. This will be the first time I will be eagerly awaiting a patch.

Well said. I remember last year when I first ordered OOTP5 and they hype leading up to release was just feverish. Then once you start playing you check the boards religiously to see what everyone else is doing while trying to play your own league.
Then come the questions about patches, as stated above, then the questions about face packs, stadium packs, etc. from the "new" rookies (to defer to those of us who are career minor leaguers).

But it is all soooo worth it, espcially now that spring is here and everyone shifts to a baseball mindset for the summer...
