A fun read while waiting for OOTP6
I recently came across a 1993 book called "The Worst Baseball Pitchers of All Time: Bad Luck, Bad Teams and Just Plain Bad" by Alan Kaufman and James Kaufman. It was published by McFarland & Co., Inc.
The book is filled with statistics and funny anecdotes.

Anything by Roger Angell or Donald Honig. George Will's Men at Work. A number of team oral histories by Peter Golenbeck. David Halbertstam wrote two fine books about the '47 and '64 seasons. Jane Peavey's "Koufax". Roger Kahn's "Head Game".
Just a few. Mark |

If any of you have kids that are interested in baseball history my son just read a book by Dan Gutman called 'Shoeless Joe and Me'. He read it in one sitting and loved it, Gutman has 5 books out in the series including ones on Honus Wagner, Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle and Jackie Robinson. The Honus Wagner book was just made into a TV movie starring Mathew Modine as Wagner and is playing this weekend on TNT.
As for us adults probably my favorite is stll the old standby 'The Glory of Their Times' by Lawrence Ritter.

Those books are great for kids. I've had many sixth graders read and enjoy them but I think they work for younger kids as well. Big rec from me for those who have or know kids 9-12 or so.

I'm reading Moneyball right now (well, not right this very second obviously
) and it's a hell of a read. Only a couple of chapters in, but the chapter on Bill James is fascinating!

Fences, by August Wilson. You could probably find it online somewhere, it is a play. Pretty short, but has good historic baseball references in it.

Coover's _The Universal Baseball Association, Inc.: J. Henry Waugh, Prop._ is about a guy named Henry who blurs the lines between reality and fantasy and between sanity and insanity while obsessing over a very involved baseball simulation.
You guys really sure that you want to be reading it? Especially the moderator?

My personal fave, Where They Ain't: The Fabled Life and Untimely Death of the Original Baltimore Orioles, the Team that Gave Birth to Modern Baseball
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books Easily the best book on turn of the century baseball that shows the business of baseball 100 years ago was much more similar to the business of the game today than most people realize.
