Cool Followup ...

Started a new topic only so I could make sure I got the input I needed to fix a problem.

Some of you claim the pictures on my sites do not show up. I'd like to determine why and under what conditions, so if you would visit the following webpages and then let me know if you can see the graphics, what browser version, OS, and connection speed your using, I could try and figure this out. Thanks in advance

Hi Henry, depending on what OS your server is running (Unix or Win2K), the default index pages have to named "index.html" or "index.htm". Because of this, I think your first link should be pointing to:
"http://www.citygate.net/bigcitybaseball/index.html" (the "http://www.citygate.net/bigcitybaseball/index.htm" link did not work for me)

The 2nd and 3rd links (and all pics) worked fine for me (running Win98 through IE6 and a cable modem).

Henry,

I couldn't see the pics on the 2nd and 3rd links. Otherwise, there were no problems. Here's what I'm using.

IE - 5.50.4134.0100
OS - Windows ME
Connection - 56K Modem

Henry,

I also could not see the pictures on the 2nd and 3rd page.

I am using Windows ME, and i tried the links in both AOL 7.0 and IE 5.50.4134.0600

The regular BigCityBaseball link worked fine.

Running Windows ME and a simple 56K modem dial-up connection. IE 5.5. Was able to see everything with no problems. Only thing that seems weird, was that when the page was loading, it said "Done" at the bottom before the pictures were fully loaded. I let it sit for a few seconds and they appeared.

General Mike & Rob Hill,

Based om nukester's comment, could you see if the pics show up within a few seconds after it says "Done" ? Thanks,

Henry,

I downloaded IE 6.0 and I'm still having problems viewing the images on those pages. I've tried searching Microsoft's help page, and the problem is described, but when I try their solution, I still don't see the images. Any clues fellas?

Nukester, are you using the default Internet Options settings?

Rob

I waited around 5 minutes for so on both pages, and the images still did not show up.

Henry,

The url is <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/search" target="_blank">here</a>.

In the search pulldown menu, I chose Internet Explorer 6. The keywords I used were "viewing images".

Rob

Cool

Anyone else other than Mike and Rob that can't see the images on my pages ? ... Seems it has to be something in the configuration of the recieving machines since others see the pages correctly....

I must correct myself, I have Windows ME, Internet Explorer v. 5.50.4134.0600, and a 56k modem. I, like nuke, was able to see the images if I waited for about 5-6 seconds after the browser said 'done'. The reason I said I must correct myself was because the first time I viewed the pages, after about 3-4 seconds of it loading and not seeing the images , I just closed the window. This time I waited longer and they loaded just fine.

This may be part of your problem: when I first visited pages 2 & 3 no pictures showed up but I was asked to download "a component" to make the page viewed correctly. After I downloaded the component called 'Vector Graphic Rendering (VML)' the pictures would show up, and I got the weird thing saying the page was done prior to the pics popping up.

Page 1 wouldn't load unless I agreed to allow Active X controls to run, I think alot of people have kept these disabled since its a good way to negate ads.

Win 98'
IE 5.5
56K

My guess is that IE 6 already has the VML installed, so people using IE (X.X) will probably have to download the file for the page to be viewed and that people with modem connections need to wait a few seconds after done to see if the pictures show up.

I should admit that I had to DL some VML (Vector Markup Language) program as well when the last bigcitybaseball site went up a few weeks or so ago. I believe VML is used to edit graphics with code instead of having to edit each image with a graphics program.

I made a change (minor) in the way I saved the graphic files but don't really think this is it... but, those of you that have had problems - could you try this link to see if anything has changed.

Henry,

I downloaded the VML, like suggested previously, and still can't see the images, even with your changes. :shrugs: I guess I'm just not supposed to see those images! lol

Strange... I changed the graphics from .png to .jpg but that didn't seem to matter. It is also strange that only two of you seem to not see the graphics. I've tried it on 4 different machines (home, work and a laptop) with WinMe, WinNT4, and Win2k with both IE5.5 and 6.0 and it works on all of them. Not sure what to do next....

Yes Rob, I would think that I have the default options on my browser. Ive tweaked a few things on the machine but I dont think I touched any browser settings aside from the default home page.

When you say you changed the graphics I presume you meant you converted them rather than just changed the file names??

I'm running Opera with WinXP Pro and they don't show up here..
